My personal experiences in firefighting, and now lack of a volunteer department close by these days, has led me to purchase this game. I found the flames to react well, the hose reacts well and puts out the fire about the way a real hose would. Using the saw was a bit clunky and tempermental. You have to hit the screen just right to make the cut the way the game wants a surface cut. The jaws were kind of cool in that you have to twist them just like in real life to get the right entry point on say like a car door hinge. I started the game with the tutorial just so i could get used to the controls, but in no time i was knocking back flames. After the tutorial, you get thrust right into a commercial fire, so hang on. One other slight drawback is that in each mission, you find yourself being thrust to do many different jobs, very unlike what a big paid department would be like. For example, after putting out a fire, you get called to do some search and rescue for survivors, then off to hit the deck gun on an engine outside, then working off a ladder truck, then back to fighting a fire in an adjacent building, etc... You will find yourself alone in burning parts of a building without much of a team in a few instances as well. Very much against what you are taught as a firefighter.
But still, all-in-all, this is a fun game and still gets my heart pumping when i see the flames crawling across the ceiling fixing to eat you alive!! I fully understand what the company set out to do in the game, and they did it very well when you consider there have been very few if any games like this ever produced to learn from. Hopefully we will see Firefighter 2 with some new stuff (fireboats, RIT teams, squad based control and interaction (think SOCOM), and maybe even promotion to higher levels to allow full command of all the units on a scene). Maybe i am too hopeful, but it could happen....

It's a game anybody can enjoy, great for kids who always wanted to be a firefighter, teaches the tools. Its great, You save lives but at the same time FUN. Its intense and lots of action, great also for the any gamer because there's difficulty that makes it more challenging. Also a portion of the sales goes to a charity. You're having fun and helping your community at the same time, such a great deal, very rare for games nowadays.

What a solid game for the Wii. Action, excitement and non-violent. There needs to be more games like this available for kids and families.

My family and I purchased this game last week, and I probably should have gotten two since the kids never let me play it! The kids (boy aged 12 and girl aged 9) both love it, and when I've gotten to play it, it's been a lot of fun.
And their mom loves how it's non-violent too. At $30, with some going to a firefighter cancer charity, this is an easy purchase, and I highly recommend it!

Useful Training Tool,

So far, I can say the fires behave similar to reality. I'm sure some will contradict that statement, but hey... it's a video game. If you place the water in the right spots and follow patterns we are trained to use, it is actually quite effective. When my young daughter pried the Wii remote from my hand, I saw how much more difficulty... she had putting fires out being untrained. I coached her briefly and she improved significantly.
I can see where this game could be used as another training tool for departments looking for a safe way to show rookies different techniques. Now I have to see if I can talk my chief into getting a Wii for the firehouse.

This game is one of the best games that I have played on the Wii so far. It is very cool and it really gives you a good idea of what Firefighters have to deal with. You will use different tools to use like the fire extinguisher, fire hose, axe and more. You can even unlock upgraded versions of these tools. There is so much to do like rescue people and animals and collect evidence along the way to help determine the cause of the fire. In addition to fighting the fires with your hose or extinguisher you can also break open windows / skylights to let the smoke out. You will also utilize specialty tools along the way to cut down walls, open elevator doors and much more. I think most kids and adults will love this game but beware it is a little difficult to learn the controls. The first couple of times that my son tried to play he got very frustrated because you use the nunchuk to walk and the remote to look around and the movement is very quick. It takes a little time to master the movements but once you learn to move around you will be hooked.

I bought this game today because as a volunteer firefighter you just can't get enough of the flame. It has true to life situations and flame behavior. Many of the guys and gals on the department came over to play it too and we were all very, very impressed by this game! Recommended for anyone!

I am glad to see a game where the player is the hero with no shooting, killing, criminals.

We got this game for an adult who is a fire fighter. He enjoys playing it.
Parts of it are realistic(as far as games go). You need to train to use tools, be aware of your safety, and meet the objective before moving on. Nothing gory, no violence. Some name calling from your trainers, but nothing horrible. I would let my kids play it too. |
