5.0 out of 5 stars It's just what I wanted, September 18, 2007

This review is from: Real Highland Fling (Audio CD)
It's just what I wanted. My son plays the bagpipes but is gone for 2 years serving a mission. I played this for our 9-11 Flag ceremony and you would have thought his pipe band was playing. The arrangements are simple and powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!, June 3, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Real Highland Fling (Audio CD)
This CD was the first one I got with bagpipes in it. It was great because I was new to bagpiping when I bought it and the CD gives an overview of Scottish bagpiping and orchestral tunes. I like this CD even more after listening to a few others because it is hard to find bagpiping CDs with such sound quality as this one. Also it has motivated me to continue learning the pipes because I want to sound like one of those talented bagpipers.

my dad wanted a bagpipe cd for christmas, but it had to have amazing grace on it, well, after listening to alot of bagpipe cd tracks, (and taking lots of asprin!) this one was perfect, i actually also like bagpipes if done well, and not those military ones, this one was perfect. has a nice celtic sound to it, pleasen on the ears, very relaxing. my dad opened it right away and has played the stuffens out of it already!! you cant go wrong with this one, it will even turn a non listener into a bagpipe listner!! and the price was fantastic for such good music!!

This is some of the best pipe music I've heard. Two of my favorites are Castle Walls and Scottish Fantasy - both are majestic and moving, enough to stir any soul with a bit of Scottish blood in it. I'd recommend this cd to anyone who loves pipe music.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first bagpipe album, April 27, 2003
This review is from: Real Highland Fling (Audio CD)
Not being a huge music junky, I normally just buy what's in a bargain bin, where I found this CD. Since I have spent a huge portion of my life watching war movies, I was remotely interested in bagpipes, since they are so often heard in war movies. You can tell I'm not a music buyer, but this CD has made me interested in getting some more bagpipe works.

Mind you, the bagpipes are not for everyone. Sometimes you get sounds out of a bagpipe that you thought couldn't exist. Then it's even weirder to learn that that's how it was supposed to sound. But when they are well played it can be enjoyable.

This volume is simply an introduction to the basics. These are the most often heard/most popular songs played on bagpipes. There's nothing spectacular in this CD, no incredible solos or revolutionary interpretations, it's just the standard oeuvre for any bagpipe player. Buy this album if you're somewhat interested in bagpipes but aren't sure, but this CD is not for aficionados of bagpipes.
