What I learned:
1. Decide who you are. Most people don't and spend their lives being thrown around by the wind.
2. Shine your light on others. Leadership is a service business.
3. Build on your strengths. The strengths you have are enough. Manage your weaknesses instead of obsessing about them.
4. Earn your position. In the age of entitlement, it's nice to hear this principle reinforced. Earn your place.
5. Focus on what you can control. Don't stress about what you can't.
6. Develop a peaceful core. None of us are here for long.
7. Be a lighthouse for others. The world needs you.
8. Don't burn bridges. Everything comes around.
9. Make your family proud and make yourself proud. And that pride comes from contribution to others.
If you're interested in becoming a better leader in our ever changing world, "Real Leadership: 9 Simple Practices For Leading And Living With Purpose" is an important addition to your library. I highly recommend it.

Additionally, the book offers many proven guidelines about business and life. Samples:
"My view is that you get up every day and aim to be a little better than you were yesterday. You figure out what you’re naturally good at. . . .Everyone has some distinct talent or area of potential excellence. What’s yours? If you don’t know, make it your business to find out."
“You’re either green and growing, or you’re ripe and rotten.”
“Live every day like it’s your last. One day you’re going to be right.”
“You can’t succeed on your own. Nobody does. . . .You want to build up a group of people who are pulling for you, not pulling against you—people who want you to succeed, not who want you to fail."
