4.0 out of 5 stars STOP PANNING THIS ALBUM!!!!
Okay, I'm going to make this short and sweet. No, this is not Maiden's best live recording. No, this is definitely not Dickenson's best performance. But you know what? They have so many friggin' live cds, it's hard to be the best and this still sounds good enough for me. Why would you give a 1 star to a maiden album with all their classics just because it's not perfect...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK but nothing to shout about.
I've read the other reviews on this 2CD package, and I'd have to agree with most of the comments.

Janick Gers replaces Adrian Smith on guitar, and it's like having two Dave Murray's in the band. I preferred the melodious sounds of Adrian Smith and the pummeling riffs of Dave Murray together, instead of two guitarists playing the same style. Janick's guitar solo's are...

With all this said, this is a great recording but probably is only for die-hard maiden fans like myself. If you really only want 1 live Maiden album, I would go to the Donnington CD. You can't go wrong there.

Janick's guitar solo's are markedly different from those of Adrian Smith, and that can take long time Iron Maiden fans a little getting used to on the older songs. But Gers does play well on Maiden's newer material, to his credit.

The production of these discs are relatively weak, and Bruce's singing isn't at his best. This collection of live tunes offers Prowler, Transylvania, Where Eagles Dare, and Remember Tomorrow, that are not on the other live Iron Maiden releases. Beyond that, this collection doesn't really offer anything new to Maiden fans.

LIVE AT DONNINGTON is a better live recording then A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE, and DONNIGTON is almost a mirror recording of the second disc of A REAL DEAD ONE. Also, LIVE AFTER DEATH has most of the same songs as does disc 1 of A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE, and LIVE AFTER DEATH also sounds better then A REAL DEAD ONE.

Buy A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE if you're a die-hard wanting to complete your Iron Maiden catalog, but these metal legends have better offerings out there then this. If you're new to Iron Maiden, begin with Piece Of Mind and Powerslave.

This review is from: Real Live Dead One (Audio CD)
I am a very passionate Iron Maiden fan, and also I bought the A Real Live Dead One album and unlike many other people I enjoy it. But first of all, let's analyze this album objectively.

First thing, the track selection. The track selection of this album could be better, I believe it, but it's not really a matter of complaint. For instance, in a Real Dead One there are missing some classic cuts from their early periods, such as Aces High, Wrathchild, 22 Acacia Avenue, Flight of Icarus, but in the other hands there are tracks that were very accurately put here such as The Number of the Beast, The Trooper, Two Minutes to Midnight, Hallowed be Thy Name, and practically all. In A Real Live One I really missed Wasted Years, and if they would switch Tailgunner for Hooks in You, it would be better, but as I said, we can't complain. Afterall Iron Maiden has much too many amazingly nice songs that cannot be resumed only in 25 or 30 tracks.

Second the sound quality. I know that Live After Death has better sound than A REal Live Dead One, but also the sound in A REal Live One is not so terrible up to me, is just that the drums and the bass are too loud and the guitars sometimes fade.

But even if the sound quality isn't the best and truth to be told Dickinson's voice is not at his top performance (it even feels a little bit tired at times) A Real Live Dead One is a very powerful album where you can see some human flaws but above all is very cool. The interaction with the audience, the sing along and the improvisations make some tracks very interesting some of them better (according to my judgement) than the studio versions.

For instance there's Hallowed be thy Name which after the electric part almost feels like Cradle of Filth's version, Sanctuary, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Heaven Can Wait, Afraid to Shoot Strangers (but I really prefer to hear Blaze Bailey performing that song, The Trooper, Bring Your Daughter ... To the Slaughter, etc.

Definitely this is far from the best Iron Maiden recording but is a very good complement for an Iron Maiden collection. And here's one final advice: see it as a collection of live rarities, and an anthology of concert numbers and you'll learn to enjoy it as much as me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Who Mixed this?, February 10, 2010
This review is from: Real Live Dead One (Audio CD)
A real Live dead one is the worst sounding Maiden album. It sounds like a better than average sound board bootleg. The whole band sounds like they're in a hurry to get off the stage. I enjoy "Live One" much more than "dead" mostly because we hadn't heard these songs live yet. I originaly got these when they were individually released back in the early 90's. The only true great live version out of the two is "fear of the Dark" and in my opinon, The only reason to buy this. If you want a great live album, stay with Live after Death, Live in rio, or Flight 666 they are all excelent. Death on the road is ok.
Up the Irons!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Maiden set!, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Real Live Dead One (Audio CD)
I've read a lot about how the sound quality is poor and the singer isn't singing up to par etc etc, but I have to say, I'm extremely pleased with this CD. I love live CDs in general, and while this CD set isn't polished, it doesn't really have to be. It's live. Part of the fun of listening to a live CD is escaping the overproduced sounds of studio recordings for something more raw, but still enjoyable, and I think A Real Live Dead One fits the bill.

The track list is good, despite missing a song or two that I'd have liked to have had on here, and despite what others might say, I think the music volume is blended nicely with the vocals. This CD really gives off that live show aura while providing good quality to the songs we know and love.

Don't be closed minded about this CD... give it a chance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, give me a break! I thought this album was great., August 13, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Real Live Dead One (Audio CD)
This album, I thought sounded great. I just don't understand why everyone pans Iron Maiden's early 90's releases. Okay, so Adrian Smith is gone. So what? Janick Gers is so underrated. I think he's a great guitarist and don't really hear much of a difference between his and Smith's playing styles. Everyone seems to complain about the sound. I hear nothing wrong with it. Seriously, I don't understand why everyone is complaining about the sound quality. Sure it may not sound 110%. Well, IT'S LIVE DUMBASS!! By this time, Iron Maiden really matured in their music as heard on probably their best song, "Afraid to Shoot Strangers." This album and Live at Donington are victims of PREDIJUCE.

This album is underrated and Iron Maiden is awesome. Bruce Dickinson sounds fine, so does Janick Gers and the sound quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost a classic, February 25, 2010
This review is from: Real Live Dead One (Audio CD)
Why would anyone buy the individual A Real Live One and A Real Dead One when you can get both with this set? This is a great Maiden double-disc live album, but without Adrian Smith. Very good, but would be a classic if Smith was on board for this one. I like having a disc of "classics" and a disc of "newer" Maiden. Great used deal 2 dollar music used here on Amazon. If you have Live After Death and want more live Maiden this is a great purchase. Highlights include Where Eagles Dare, Be Quick or Be Dead, Tailgunner, The Evil That Men Do, Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter.
