4.0 out of 5 stars Love Eventually Captures Nick and Monique!
This was a slow read for me basically because there was too much time spent on Monique's difficulty with being adopted. She allowed her ex-fiance to feed in her mind that because she was adopted that she was not good enough for him. In allowing this to weigh her down she permitted to not let Nick know the truth at the very beginning of their initial relationship. So...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mmm...Remember what mama said about judging a book....
by it's cover? Well listen to her, because this book was mediocre at best. Maybe somebody else will enjoy hearing about a couple's marriage of convenience, but I personally wasn't amused by this mockery of the holy institution. 4.0 out of 5 stars Love Eventually Captures Nick and Monique!, March 6, 2000
This review is from: Real Love (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a slow read for me basically because there was too much time spent on Monique's difficulty with being adopted. She allowed her ex-fiance to feed in her mind that because she was adopted that she was not good enough for him. In allowing this to weigh her down she permitted to not let Nick know the truth at the very beginning of their initial relationship. So here Monique proceeds everyday with building this wall between her and Nick because she placed him in a category like her ex-fiance. To top it off, both Nick and Monique really loved each other and just did not take the necessary steps by just being honest with one another from the very beginning. I would have preferred at least earlier in the book for Monique to just come clean with Nick, the same as he should have about the land matter. It really disturbs me anyway that the grandmother would put a condition as to the first one who gets married gets the land. The grandmother is to blame for putting the two cousins at odds with each other in the first place. I don't necessarily prefer that the instituion of marriage had to be used to one, save Monique's business and secondly allow Nick with the opportunity to obtain the family land. I enjoyed the overall plot but just felt that too much time was spent addressing the adoption part. I enjoyed the re-visit of Nick's brother Parker and his wife Daniella who were introduced in their story, "Love By Design"

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Conquers All, February 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Real Love (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading Monique and Nick's story, I was flabbergasted.I felt some sort of pain for the both of them. One being able to love so freely, the other scared of the past. They were a very beautiful couple; and though married not in the name of love,it was clear from the beginning that they did love each other from the start. However, maybe the six months should've ended a little earlier in the story therefore we could see more of the loving couple in their element.Hey, what about a follow up? Give us the opportunity to see Nick and Monique as a happily married, loving couple;maybe even starting a family. And PLEASE get Roger out of her life somehow. What he did was hurtful and painful.Thank You.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friends make the best lovers!!, November 5, 2000
This review is from: Real Love (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Nice come back!! I loved this book. I love it when friends become more then "just friends." Even though it seemed that they were lovers before it was still a great read! Who in their right mind would not want Nick Parker, at first I thought Monique needed her head examined!! Great stroy, a must read. Job well done Sanders!!

Maybe somebody else will enjoy hearing about a couple's marriage of convenience, but I personally wasn't amused by this mockery of the holy institution. True, romance books aren't suppose to be written like the bible, but any time you have two people getting married just to get a piece of land from their grandmother, I just don't think that's right.

And if the heroine, Monique had such a succesful salon before, I don't understand why she didn't have enough money set aside to pay for her own bills, instead of being dependent on a man!

All in all, I felt like Monique played the predictable 'helpless female' while Nick Parker played the easily understandable 'strong, take control man'. If you want something predictable, then read this book, otherwise, keep searching.
