5.0 out of 5 stars Many Thanks to John Larroquette, December 18, 1999
This review is from: Real Me (Audio CD)
I first heard "Real Me" for about 12 seconds at the very end of the John Larroquette Show in 1994. I immediatly had to have that song to play when I married my wife. I was floored by the song's lyrics, the simple arrangement and the voice.

This is a fantastic, soulful, CD that gets played often - and I own more than 10,000 CD's!

My favorite will always be "Real Me".

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Me, December 21, 2000

I cannot believe the people who are now hooked on Johnny Adams after hearing this song on the John Larroquette Show. I had never watched this program before that night. When I heard the song "The Real Me" I was blown away. The next day I was at the music store looking for this CD and any others of his. I could not find it in any stores that day. Finally, I had a store order some of his CD's for me (this was before I was on AOL). I now own everthing I could find that he has recorded. When my friends heard him, they also could not believe we had never heard of him before. Everyone should have his entire collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superlative, January 28, 2000
This review is from: Real Me (Audio CD)
You can't have enough Johnny Adams' CDs in your collection. But even among all of his other fabulous recordings, this CD stands alone. I Underestimated You and Prisoner of Life are two of my favorites here. His delivery is effortless. The backing musicians are incredible. It's music to sing out loud to when no one is looking. It's music to wallow in, you'd almost *want* a broken heart so you could be in a funk with it listening to Johnny Adams sing Doc Pomus. If you're reading this and you don't have this CD, scrape up the $15 or whatever and get it. It's a pleasure you don't want to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real him, September 14, 1998

This IS Adams, as well as it IS Doc Pomus. If you had to tell anyone who has never heard a single bit of Blues or Soul what it feels like, you'd take this album out of the shelf (if it ever happens to land there)

Johnny Adams had a voice that was powerful, sensual, and silky smooth. Doc Pomus wrote great songs. What a combination! This is another fantastic CD by Johnny Adams, this time with backup by Dr. John on keyboards, Duke Robillard on guitar, and a horn section. Every song is great, what more could you want in a CD? I love all of Johnny's stuff, from the very earliest to the last stuff he recorded, it is interesting to monitor his growth and direction as a singer, his choice in material, throughout his career. You can always feel the spirit of New Orleans in his music.

5.0 out of 5 stars All-time Favorite, May 3, 1998

One of the smoothest voices around. This gutsy blues offering of great Doc Pomus tunes is in my all-time top 5 list.

If you have never experienced Johnny Adams, start here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Johnny, February 6, 2010
This review is from: Real Me (Audio CD)
I have all Johnny's albums this is my favorite-Fantastic production by Scott Billington using the cream of New Orleans sidemen. An incredible singer who should be in anyone's collection who values great Southern Soul and R&B. All the rounder albums are wonderful. The R&B Album,"best of" is also a great place to start. Doc Pomus, Johnny Adams- 2 unsung heros of American music.

Johnny Adams and Doc Pomus....I first heard this album in a restaurant in Vancouver B.C. and it has been a favorite ever since almost to the point of evangelizing the greatness of this recording. As for being on my third copy of the album, yeah I keep loaning it out and never getting it back. That should tell you something about how the songs impact people. When people hear, "The Real Me." There is no comment, only listening because it touches people on and in away that is real, simple, clean and stunning. This album still moves me even to this day.
