Mom! Get Real . . . and Get Free!

Are you tired of constantly trying—and failing—to be a perfect mom? Stop beating yourself up and let the truth about motherhood set you free! Real Moms debunks the "good mom" fallacies that have weighed you down by giving you some liberating "real mom" truths. This book punctures such mothering myths as: · Good moms look good all the time. · Good moms keep everybody happy. · Good moms instinctively know what their children need. · Good moms take responsibility for how their children turn out. · Good moms don’t admit their feelings of guilt or anger or fear—because to admit those feelings might make them look like they are not good moms.

Each chapter examines a myth and its corresponding reality, and ends with a how-to practical application, a "Real Mom" story, questions for reflection and discussion, and "Real Mom" quotes from Real mothers.

Wouldn’t you love to be free to accept your imperfections? Free not to feel guilty about your limitations? Free to ask for help, free to be real, free to grow? Freedom is in store for you—freedom to be the best mom you can be. This book will show you the way.

If you're like me ~~ a mom of toddlers ~~ there are some days when you think you're going insane ~~ this book IS for you. This book is explosive in a positive way ~~ it is uplifting, encouraging and enlightening.

I have to admit when I read the first page, I thought yeah, yeah, this book isn't talking about me. WRONG. This book is definitely for me and it's one that I will never loan to another person till my kids are grown up ~~ then I'll give it to their wives to read. I will need this book for years to come ~~ it offers practical advice, spiritual guidance based on the Biblical scriptures ~~ and stories about other moms who went through the same stuff I am now going through.

This book offers solutions and advice ~~ but in a gentle loving way. This book tells you a Mom Myth (like you have to be perfectly made-up at all times) and a Mom Reality (yeah right ~~ real moms are known to wear their PJs all day long) ~~ and it helps alleviate the pressure that moms might be feeling.

Speaking for myself ~~ I am a mom that has high expectations of myself. I expect my house to be spotless, my children perfectly mannered at all times, and I have great food on the table every day. Well, the reality is: the dog will stick his nose on my perfectly clean windows five minutes after I just washed them; the kids will have a bad day five days in a row; my meals may consist of take-out and the laundry is piling up, the telephone's ringing off the hook and all I want to do is hide. That is my reality. These two authors helped me to realize that it's ok. It's normal. I am normal. I am a Real Mom.

They have funny stories in there as well ~~ they help find the humor in sticky situations and they offer a reminder ~~ these kids of yours will never stay young.

Morgan and Kuykendall, directors for the national organization, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), know what moms need: honest, hopeful, helpful advice. In Real Moms, they note popular "mom myths" (such as real moms must always look good or a real mom never gets angry) and the corresponding realities. Each chapter ends with a practical application, questions for reflection and quotes from real moms. Their message is encouraging; their style, unique and down-to-earth. I needed this book!

I bought this book thinking it would be a "hoot" to read. I was very disappointed. It was not funny, but more of an explanation of what "real" moms supposedly are & are not. It might not be too bad if you have VERY young children & you don't have much experience. But having 3 "older" kids, it was just not what I was expecting. I would not recommend this book.

Picked up this book on a recent visit to the library. The title says it all--Get Real! Elisa and Carol, both representatives of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), wrote this book to help other moms realize that it's okay to not be perfect because in reality no one is perfect except Christ. Accept that, and life becomes a lot easier. It's an easy read, an encouraging read and its set up in an organized enough manner that you can skip read the chapter that may not necessarily apply to you and really delve into chapters that can change your way of thinking. In fact, here's the chapter titles just to give you a taste.

Chapter 1: Real Me Mom: Real Moms Know and Accept Who They Are
Chapter 2: Perma-Guilt Mom: Real Moms Feel Guilty
Chapter 3: Monster Mom: Real Moms Get Angry
Chapter 4: Please Everyone Mom: Real Moms Can't Fix Everyone and Everything
Chapter 5: Lookin' Good Enough Mom: Real Moms Struggle with Their Looks
Chapter 6: Viagra Mom: Real Moms Aren't Always in the Mood for Sex
Chapter 7: Doin' My Best Mom: Real Moms Aren't Perfect and Don't Have Perfect Children
Chapter 8: Mommy Wars Mom: Real Moms Like Their Way Best
Chapter 9: S.O.S. Mom: Real Moms Need Help
Chapter 10: Busy Mom: Real Moms Have Too Much to Do
Chapter 11: Worry-Some Mom: Real Moms Worry about There Kids
Chapter 12: Control Freak Mom: Real Moms Can't Control How Their Kids Turn Out
Chapter 13: Truth is Our Friend Mom: Real Moms Know the Truth is Scary and Can Hurt
Chapter 14: Soul Mom: Real Moms Are More Than Moms
Chapter 15: Forever Mom: Real Moms Know Mothering Gets Different, Not Easier

If you're in need of an encouraging pick-me up I suggest this book. You'll be uplifted in no time and may even laugh hysterically several times as well. Enjoy!
