Review

Several chapters definitely caught my attention, including Make Over Salt, Fat, and Sugar:Your Dysfunctional Friends I need something realistic that keeps me on track with goals & it looks like Real Moms Love to Eat will give great encouragement to help me with my love affair with food. Review from the Writing Canvas Blog.

I'm so glad that was able to read this book. It takes a totally different & refreshing look at losing & maintaining a healthy weight by encouraging women to forge a healthy & knowledgeable relationship with food. It's fun to read. No joke-it's fun to read Beth's prose-she's funny! Review from Toddler in Tow blog.

When we deprive ourselves it often makes us overeat when we finally give in to that craving. Why not have built in cheats? This is a weight loss adventure with a built in cookbook. My favorite kind of book as I'm always trying to lose 10 pounds! This book is also full of great tips. Review from My Unentitled Life blog.

Aldrich, with a given background in Health, provides a ten-week Real Moms Love to Eat Plan guide to keep real moms balanced and on the right track while embracing a passion for food. The narrative voice is witty, conversational, and supportive. Review by Celebrity Cafe blog

However, it's hard to give up the things you love. Fortunately, this book teaches you how to find that perfect balance so you are getting healthy while still eating what you love. Review by Southern Girl Ramblings blog.

"A very good primer to help you begin to make your diet an ally, not an enemy, in today's time-compressed world."
(-Dr. Barry Sears, author of the Zone Diet books)

"This book gives you the blueprint for eating seductively, pleasurably, healthfully, and practically-while also feeding your family every day. What's not to love?"
(-Christiane Northrup, M.D.)

From the Author

I wrote this book with you in mind. I'm a busy mom with 1001 things to do in a day and I know how sometimes we can get so overwhelmed that we forget to take care of ourselves. After a serious car accident in 2007, I took a long, hard look at the direction my life was taking and decided to press "do over" and go back to school to study Holistic Nutrition. As a Certified Health Counselor, I worked with so many moms who had the same issues: lack of energy, food didn't satisfy them, constant cravings, always longing for more from food and most of all, wanting to lose weight and feel fabulous. Well, their prayers have been answered, because I've compiled ALL of my best tips, ideas, solutions and funny stories into one little book for you to "devour" or "savor" to your heart's content. With easy-to-follow, do-able weekly assignments, you'll be asking the sales clerk, "Can you get me a smaller size?" in no time. Welcome to the lusciously, delicious world of Real Moms Love to Eat.  Yours in health, Beth Aldrich

Love! Love! Love this book! As a busy mom of a toddler and soon-to-be mom of a newborn, I'm constantly searching for ways to eat heathy and still be able to enjoy the foods that I love without the guilt. Real Moms Love to Eat was such an awesome read - the writing style is funny and realistic. The suggestions are easy to add into a busy day and really are about creating a lifestyle rather than a diet that you'll drop in a few weeks. I, too, have a health/nutrition background, so I really love the way that Aldrich is able to easily add such whole food options into daily meals. I definitely recommend this book, even if you're not a mom. It's a great reminder that food is supposed to be enjoyed!

I LOVE everything about this book! It is easy and fun to read, and Beth's program is so easy to follow! I am reading this book with a friend, and we are starting our 6th week into Beth's 10 week program tomorrow. In just that short period of time it is amazing the changes we have both made, and the results we have seen! We also had the pleasure of meeting Beth this past week, and she is just as inspiring and amazing in person as she is in her book!! She helps you look at your life and health as a big picture and how everything in your life needs to be in balance. This is not a DIET, it is a positive change in your life to pursue a healthy lifestyle. I have yo yo dieted my entire life and sure I lose the weight, but as soon as I get back to "real food" and "real life", the weight comes back and then some! With Beth's plan you eat real food and she makes eating healthy fun. You will NEVER feel deprived!! She gives great ideas, tips and recipes. I believe I will never have to go on another diet again, and I am confident I will continue changing my eating habits long after the 10 weeks is over. I strongly recommend this book, and that you read it with a friend, not only are the two of us seeing the changes it is making to our bodies, but it has brought us closer together as friends. POSITIVE LIFE CHANGES!! Thank-you Beth!!

At first I was skeptical whether Beth Adlrich's book Real Moms Love to Eat would apply to me. I don't love to eat, and the byline "How to Conduct a Love Affair with Food, Lose Weight, and Feel Fabulous" includes the kind of phase that makes me turn off my attention; I don't need to lose weight and for most off my life I've needed to gain weight. But when I scanned the table of contents I was impressed; all of the topics were sound principles of healthy eating. Beth sets her conversation about food in the context of having an affair - spicy, exciting, and enticing, but having an affair with your husband. She says "you know he's good for you, so you bring back the joy, the excitement, the flavor of your first exciting encounters. You can trust him. Food isn't a quick fix, a fling--it's a marriage, but it can stay spicy forever." Hmmm.... maybe this would be a good book for me! I have a good relationship with my husband, but not with food.

As I read the book I concluded that Beth's approach is great for people on the lower end of the weight spectrum as well as those at the higher end, because among other topics Beth focuses on your relationship with food and provides exercises to help you get in touch with your inner child and food memories. Beth also talks about the importance of hormonal balance, how to work toward it, and how to make healthier food choices. Those choices don't include "low-fat;" she encourages you to eat real food, not just real foods, but high quality real foods (in moderation).

These are just a few of the topics that Beth addresses. Her friendly best-girl-friend tone is easy to read and reminds you not to take things too seriously (except for the bit about the artificial sweetners).

I thought it was an easy read and one I would recommend to family and friends interested in managing their weight. I should also note that this is not a diet book, as diets rarely work, but instead a new attitude on how to eat, which will ultimately lead to weight loss. Aldrich being the nutritionist she is, has some healthy and innovaitive ideas on how to manage your weight that can easily be incorpoarated into your day to day routine and still allow you to eat the foods you love to include chocolate!

Beth does a great job of helping people make healthy lifestyle changes in a fun and easy way. I'm hooked on Green Smoothies and No Bake Brownies now! The book is delightful, educational and you don't need to be a mom or a woman to read it!

I view this book as a found treasure!

I have known how to eat healthy for a long time. Our diet wasn't too bad, but it definitely needed to be better. I didn't know how to go about exchanging our normal eating habits for better habits. It just seemed a bridge to far fraught with family resistance. Just really didn't know how to make a change to our Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and dessert in a way that would really impact our "go to" eating meals/habits.

What I love about this book is that it very simply gives you a way to get started. A "no brainer" change to your breakfast that starts your day healthy. Recipes for snacks, desserts as well as meals. But you are not just thrown to the recipes to figure out your meal plan, you are brought along in a way that lets you slowly change what you're used to, to something healthier. If you are struggling for figuring out a meal or snack, then thumb through the recipes. This book is a guide for real people. I have read and re-read the book in order to pick up points I may not have fully caught in the earlier times through. I have only had the book for a few weeks, and I feel better - but I know I will feel even better as I continue on this journey. I can do this - and I can bring my family along with me. Although to be completely honest - they may lag a bit behind what I'm willing to try.

This isn't a diet book based on self denial; it is a practical way to get more fruits and vegetables into your diet in a tasteful way, and in the process losing some of those habit foods we should really lose for good.

I am so thankful I happened across this book. I highly recommend it for all of us Mom's who just can't quite get our head wrapped around a plan to do what we know we need to do.
