This review is from: For Real (Audio CD)
The second track on this 3 track single is what did it for me. 'The Next Four Months' is a song that embarrased me on the 9 train by evoking tears that rolled down my cheeks as it streamed through my headphones. It is a classic example of the enveloping narrative the Will Scheff is a master of. Since the reissue of Black Sheep Boy with the track included on the appendix, this single is really only for the hardcore fan who wants the chilling William Schaff cover art and decent, but unessential live track that wraps it up (although you do hear Will pronounce the band's name properly, which was a plus for me as I had been referring to my new favorite band as OAK-ervil River, instead of AH-kervil, as it's supposed to be). As for 'For Real' itself, there is nothing I can write that will do the song justice...it is the type of piece that rips you apart and pieces you back together at its leisure. It does seem to gain a little extra momentum as it follows the tender Tim Hardin cover on the Black Sheep Boy album.
