Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, this novel is always engaging. It is based on the true story of a school principal and the challenges she faces in the midst of community upheaval.
DeLene is a former teacher, principal, and curriculum coordinator.
She lives in historic Grayton Beach, Florida, a small village in Florida's Panhandle. The funky little village is said to be the home of nice dogs and strange people. Flanked by a state park on the east and west sides, and the emerald green Gulf of Mexico to the south, this community is a little piece of paradise. Grayton Beach is one of the oldest communities in the panhandle.
DeLene has a passion for travel, and has traveled throughout the United States. She has especially enjoyed traveling in the southwestern part of the country. DeLene has visited many Native American pueblos in the Four Corners area and she has been captivated by their diverse cultures and histories. She loves the national parks, and of course her own state, Florida. She has also visited many other countries.
DeLene began writing when her fourth grade teacher told her that she liked her autobiography, and DeLene is still doing the thing she loves. She's happiest when she's in her little office writing, editing, or proofreading. She loves to write about travel, the outdoors, especially boating, hiking, and camping. She also loves to research and write about different cultures, their people, and their food. She enjoys interviewing people who are doing something special or different, or who are coping with difficult situations.
When she's not writing, editing, or proofreading, DeLene enjoys being with her childen, grandchildren, and extended family, traveling, cooking, spending time on the beach, or visiting friends.
