Terrific documentary on Robin Hood, aired by the History Channel as counter-programming to mark the release of the Russell Crowe movie. History Channel is really good at that. Examines the origins of Robin Hood, the roles of each of the principles in his group of Merry Men, political relationships of the era including an explanation of Robin's status as a yeoman, an excellent demonstration of weaponry available to people of the era, and more. "Must have" for those with an interest in the medieval and in one of the greatest heroes in English history. You will not be disappointed.

This documentary was made along with the movie "Robin Hood" starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. Through reputable historians, the DVD takes a look at several parts of English history that show that "Robin Hood" probably existed, mainly through verbal stories handed down through the ages, and by establishing that certain members of the "Merry Men" actually existed. References were also found about "Maid Marian." The weapons expert displayed the weapons of the age, and how they were so lethal and vicious, e.g., staffs, swords, daggers, clubs, axes and of course, the longbow supposedly used so skillfully by Robin. We now know where the word "Hood" for criminals likely came from. The movie also clearly illustrated the high powers and authority, representing the noblemen, possessed by the Sheriff in every district.

More an advert for the Russell Crowe movie than an insight into the historical Robin Hood. Good production values make it watchable but as a bona fide doco it is a bit lacking.

Really just and ad for the Crowe movie. About half of this is excerpts directly from the movie. The rest was eggheads with accents trying to impress us with their edumacation (and talking about the movie). I love Robin Hood and I love to learn about him. I didn't like this. The movie wasn't great either, but expect a sequel since the movie left off where the most well known part of the Robin Hood story begins. The movie was really just speculation on what happened to Robin Hood during the crusades.

I saw this on the H2 channel and knew I would want to add it to my collection. Contains quite a bit of information on the possibility of the "real" Robin Hood, and also about the era in which he existed. I really like this DVD and wished it could have been longer.

Something silly to watch on long cold nights in winter. As a history major I found this promotional piece fun and the movie a colourful take on the legend. Nice to have the backstory on the movie.

Watched this on television years ago. When finished with the Robin Hood DVDS I've ordered recently I'll enjoy this even more without the commercials.

This documentary really delves into the origin of Robin. Fascinating that our last names are often derived from occupations. Interestingly enough Robin of Loxley is thought to be the real Robin Hood. One of the best Myths from the medieval period. Just in time to coincide with the release of the Russell Crowe film version.

I loved the way it not only explored the background of the Robin Hood legends, it gave me a very vivid sense of what England and the world were really like back then--how they lived, how they fought, the injustices of the time--and why the real Robin Hood--if he existed--was a true hero.
