Not a Study Guide.,
By Immortalix (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Official Study Guide for All SAT Subject Tests (Paperback)
The Official Study Guide for all SAT Subject Tests isn't a study guide at all, as is the case with most if not all of College Board's study guide publications. This book includes only one previously administered test per subject area, which isn't adequate enough to determine the knowledge you have mastered in the subject. The exams themselves must be at least several years old, and the conversion charts reflect the performance of past years; test writers change over time as well as student competitiveness. The part that probably ticks people off the most is that NO answer explanation is included. Because this is the only SAT Subject Test book published by the actual test writing company, many have no choice but to buy this. Just because there are no other publications of previously administered exams doesn't make it right for College Board to sloppily take a past exam booklet and add answer keys. Another problem with this book is that half of it is foreign language exams. Almost no student takes more than one language test, if any at all. The foreign language exams are dead weight. The CD included only contains listening parts. College Board needs to do better, especially for the prices it charges students for the standardized tests it administers. Unless College Board updates the exams, adds an answer key explanation, or includes more exams, this book doesn't help much, but for $13 (Amazon) or $19 (College Board), it's better than nothing. If you think about buying it, buy it early, since you're most likely not going to take more than four SAT Subject Tests, and using it for just one practice test is a waste.

Absolutely the best thing you can do for your score!,
By
This review is from: 10 Real SATs, Second Edition (Paperback)
Taking the tests in 10 Real SAT's is by far the best thing you can do to raise your score. Really. Becoming familiar with the test, seeing the types of questions and just getting in the SAT taking mindset will help you more than any vocabulary flashcards, math worksheets, tutors, or SAT programs ever will (and the book is a lot less expensive!).Though I did not score poorly on my PSAT's, I did want to score significantly better. After doing those flash cards and math sheets and visiting a few tutors, my score had gone up, but not as much as I had wanted it to. So, for the two months before the big test day, I took one full test every Saturday (it sounds like I lot, I know, but it's not that bad!). With each test, my score went up 10-30 points, and on test day, I did even better than I had been doing on the practice tests, raising my score to the level I had wanted. My advice: buy this book, and take at least three or four tests. It WILL raise your score! (Unless you're consistently getting 1600's, of course...)

This review is from: 10 Real SATs, Second Edition (Paperback)
First of all, I am not an intelligent kid. Infact, I scored extremely poor in my PSAT (bottom 50% nationally.) So the day I got my scores I decided I wasn't going to to the same thing on the real SATs. I've read Kaplan, Barron's, Princeton, Rea, Arco, vocabulary builders, and I gotten the Ten Real SATs. I've studied my brains out; and it helped. I scored Math : 610 Verbal 560 and I plan on taking them again in October. I've studied over 100 hours just for the SATs and I'll tell you as succinctly as possible how to raise your score. Buy 10 REAL SATs, Princeton's Review, Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis, Peterson's SAT Word flash 2002. These books will be a LIFE SAVER. That is in order, so if only want to buy 2-3 books, get those. They will, if you study, raise your score dramatically. I plan on getting in the 1200's next time I take the SATs, and it would be absurd to say that if I didn't have the motivation or these books.also If you are planning, or wondering what it takes to get in top tier schools; I suggest, 'College Admissions Trade Secrets' by Andrew Allen. This book will motivate you and show you, what you need to do to get into your 'dream school.' I can't stres this enough; if you actually want to raise your SAT scores, and you are serious about it. This is a MUST HAVE book.

This review is from: The Official Study Guide for All SAT Subject Tests (Paperback)
Although the book is published recently, most tests are 3 to 4 years old and NOT up to date! But that's the only real tests one can buy in the market. What can I say!? In addition, only one test per subject is not enough!

From 1170 to 1370!,
This review is from: 10 Real SATs, Second Edition (Paperback)
My score wen't from an 1170 to a 1370. I only studied for a week before my second test date due to final exams. I did 6 of the 10 tests, and the highest I scored was a 1350. My first SAT was 600 in verbal and 570 in math. My last one was 690 in verbal and 680 in math. I plan to break 1400 now. This book has given me the chance to get into much better colleges with much more ease. It's a worthy investment! (one of my friends broke 1400 on his first try thanks to the book!)

I bought my 10 real book, because it was recommedned to me at an SAT workshop. I will never regret spending the money. Since it gives you 10 real, used before SAT's it is most helpful to the first time test taker to learn the format, mainly the fact that you shouldn't answer every question on the SAT. I took the November 2000 test, and I actually saw an analogy question I had seen before in my 10 Real book. (This is because all SAT questions are recycled). The book also contains strategies. If nothing else, give your friends and family a test you have already practiced with, and let them give it a try to see how smart they are. It will make you feel better. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially a first time tester with at least 2-3 weeks for practice. I have used most of the other SAT prep books, and this is king of the hill, no need buying the others. Good Luck!

By far the most important book to buy!!,

This review is from: 10 Real SATs, Second Edition (Paperback)
You simply CANNOT prepare for the SAT I without this book; I use it as the core for my SAT I test prep class. There is no substitute for official test questions, no matter which test you are taking. This book is the *only* book on the market that has them, and many of these questions are from recent tests; two are from 2000. The book includes some strategies, answers, and score conversion tables; whatever score you get on these tests is your TRUE score. Don't rely on your scores from other books, trust me. This book, however, doesn't give explanations for the questions, so you'll need to figure them out yourself or ask a teacher, but still, this book is fantastic! Good luck on your test and order this book!

SAT Breakthrough Book!!!,
By
This review is from: 10 Real SATs, Second Edition (Paperback)
This is the best SAT workbook you can buy! I've been a SAT instructor for a while now and nothing compares with having "real" SAT questions to work through. This is the official guide to your success on the SAT. SAT students should take this book one step at a time and learn the techniques and strategies of getting the right answer. These include plugging in, working backwards, getting into the mind of the "College Board", testing relationships between word pairs, etc. I highly recommend this book and would vouch for it anytime! A must buy!(...)

The only way to "study" for the SAT is to practice taking the tests, and there is no better way to practice than to take actual tets and find your actual score. Other test prep places are overpriced and useless. You can get them all in one with this book. If you read the lessons, you will find that the book is honest and teaches exactly what the test prep places teach. This book is really all you need to maximize your SAT score.
