The book is beautiful and has some helpful hints. From the advertisement hype and cover I thought perhaps it would share new and innovative ways to repurpose items. No. While there were a few things I had not heard or read before, most of the information has previously been published in much cheaper books. The book does make a couple of suggestions for utilizing the book itself to assist with problems. At least I didn't waste all my money.

I was very disappointed in this books content. I bought it for my daughter-in-law but looked through it before gifting it to her. No wonderful surprises here...less than most folks common sense ideas were presented as revelation and as I said seemed a bit dull to me. I wouldn't waste my money on this again nor recommend it to anyone else.

My favorite part of the Real Simple magazines were the "New Uses for Old Things" sections, so I was really excited when I got this book. And yes, it's really fun to read through and see all the different ideas.

The problem is how it's organized! If I want to do something, but don't know how, there's no way to see if the book addresses it! I'd have to know ahead of time that the solution is a paper clip or vinegar, or whatever. The only way I know to get around this while reading it, is to always use little sticky tabs in order to mark ones you think you'd use. Even so, you can't predict everything! Maybe if this book had an index it would make it a lot more practical.

Even so, it's a fun read, and if you can keep all these little ideas in your head, then definitely get it!

From Real Simple magazine comes another book compiling many of the ideas found in the magazine itself. I really enjoyed looking through this book to discover ideas I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. The book is done alphabetically with everything from using apples to ripen tomatoes, to using a baby wipe to remove deodorant marks from clothing, to using a clean ketchup bottle to dispense pancake batter onto a griddle. Also included are pages devoted to the many uses of single items such as coffee filters, baking soda, or lemons. Who knew paper coffee filters make a great portable holder for snacks?

Some of the ideas are obscure (such as using rocks for bookends) or those we've all heard before (such as making graham cracker crumbs by putting them in a plastic bag and using a rolling pin), but a lot of them are ones I hadn't considered.

I couldn't put the book down and read half of it on the first reading. Of course, I can't use all of the tips, but there is plenty to benefit from and the photos are lovely. It's a keeper.

I really like the fact that Real Simple put a lot of the reuse ideas into one book and I don't have to keep track of all the ones in the magazine, that I like. What I read in this book was good enough to encourage me to buy other Real Simple books. I like this type of book, it gives me good ideas and that in turn makes me think of things I can do to recycle or reuse something or use to decorate my home.

I collect books that share household hints. I also subscribe to Real Simple the magazine. I was quite pleased when the book arrived and I could thumb through its pages.

Listing the help in alphabetical order is a bonus. The illustrations and the colors are the best.

Yes, maybe some of the hints were ones I've seen before but so what? Good advice can always be repeated.

I am satisfied with the book and its contents. It is a beneficial addition to my collection. Thank you.
