Real Simple has produced a book that does accomplish what its title proclaims. It has 189 recipes that are delicious and quick and simple. There is one recipe per page, although with all the white space the print could have been bigger to help in reading them. There is a colour picture for most, with hands on time and total time. The nutritional information is on pages in the back of the book which is a definite minus from being put with the appropriate recipes, but at least it is included. A key is also in the back for 30 minutes or less, heart healthy, one pot meal, vegetarian, no cook and family friendly. This really would have been better to have also been included on the recipe page.

Ingredients are given in American measurements although there is an equivalency chart in the back. Meat cooking temperatures with Real Simple's preferences and the USDA's guidelines are in a chart and a very handy baking pan substitution chart is also included. Recipes incorporated are; appetizers, soups, salads, poultry, beef and lamb, pork, seafood, pasta, vegetarian and desserts.
Recipes not to miss are; creamy salmon spread with horseradish, chopped steak salad, sausages with smashed potatoes and cornichons, salmon with brown butter almonds and green beans, peanut butter cup and pretzel terrine (even your company will be impressed), peanut butter cup cookies and maple pumpkin pie.
There are many wonderful recipes in this book that will impress your family and even company but yet are very simple to prepare.

I cook dinner most weeknights for me and my boyfriend (and he cooks on weekends). I have purchased many cookbooks over the years, but this is the one that I refer to most evenings to cook dinner for the 2 of us. The recipes are simple, quick, require only a few ingredients, and are very tasty! It has quickly become the most-used cookbook in my house.

I loved this book from the first recipe. I'm a personal chef and while I enjoy making meals that require hours of time and a test of skills, this book is my 'go to' favorite, hands down.

The beautiful photos make it a pleasure to use-- after all, aren't we drawn to food by its allure? Each recipe has a minimal ingredient list, and seldom do I not have almost everything in my pantry or fridge already. The fabulous dishes you'll create from the simplicity of each recipe make cooking a real joy.

Most of the recipes can be created and served within 30 minutes or so. Each main dish involves a very simple treatment of ingredients and preparation, but where this book shines is in the side dishes. Let's face it, there's nothing new under the sun to create with Chicken Breasts, but when accompanied by a lovely grain, legume, vegetable, or pasta that is equally simple and yet stunningly complimentary in flavor, you're able to pull off a restaurant-quality meal that takes hardly any time, yet gets rave reviews from your family or guests!

I would recommend this book to new cooks and seasoned cooks alike. I've given these as gifts to other 'foodie' friends and they rave about it as well. I can honestly say that I will quite possibly try every single delicious recipe in this use-friendly, stunning book.

I've been looking for a single cookbook that would give me a choice of recipes that were 1) quick-to-fix 2)nutritious 3)appealing to both "foodie" palates AND meat'n'taters palates and 4) inexpensive. There are a lot of wonderful quick-meal cookbooks out there, but so many of them seem to rely on canned products, slow cookers or other variations on the one-pot meal theme.

Dinner Tonight: Done! is exactly that. Incredible-tasting fresh-food combinations like the Asian Beef and Napa Cabbage Salad are a snap to fix. My husband and I prepared that one together in under 12 minutes, and that included making our own plum sauce for the beef. The Roasted Chicken with Grape Tomatoes and Kalamata Olives was out of this world and went into the oven in under ten minutes.

This book is organized, beautiful - one color photo per recipe on a double-page spread - and the food actually looks like the photo when it's done! I can't recommend this cookbook more highly to working couples and small families who yearn for more than the standard 9x13 casserole as a resort for quick dinners.

In addition, this is foodie food on the CHEAP!... the most expensive recipe that we've concocted cost less than $5 per generous serving. The Asian Beef was one of the least expensive, coming in at $2.45 per serving. Dinner Tonight: Done! has already saved us money and time in the last four weeks, so it definitely gets the award for best book purchase of the year.

I love cooking and I love baking... unless it's on weekdays and I get home at 6-7 pm. This book has delicious recipes that are REALLY simple to make, most of them are balanced, and most of all, fast. this has taken the pain off menu planning for me. Highly recommended.
