WOW,
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
It does motivate you to acheive success by showing that anyone can write a book. The marketing section is also of interest.
But....This certainly isn't intellectual reading (to put it mildly), and it basically says the same thing, in hundreds of ways, throughout the book. For some reason, the author thinks it's necessary to talk about the money he makes now, on several occasions, which I did feel was arrogant, because there are many other ways to get your point across without bragging about yourself. Then for the kicker - he makes the comment on page 174 that 'If you borrowed this book from the library - particularly if you are a well-paid professional- then you are not really committed to real success without a real job'. How is insulting the reader who borrowed this book from the library supposed to be a motivator? I don't think it matters how you gain information, whether free or not! I own several hundred books, but sometimes I borrow them from the library first to make sure they are worth the purchase. I can tell you right now this book is not worth purchasing - I can sum it up for you here: Stop working at a job that you don't enjoy. It is destroying your soul and taking up all your time. Life is too short. Figure out what your passion is. Then figure out how you can turn that passion into a career you will love.

More important than the "how to"...,
By
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
After working from home in an 'unjob' for over 8 years, I can tell you that success in any venture has less to do with "how". There are 100's of books that tell you "how to" whether its starting business, retiring or pursuing a dream. But if the "how to" was all that was needed, everyone would be living their dreams.
"Real Success without a Real Job" can help you put together the other ingredients required to reach success other than the "how to". Successful people aren't smarter or luckier. What they do have is a desire to have success that's bigger than their fear, a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals, and don't let the nay-sayers, stream stealers or plain bad luck and disappointment stop them. That's were Ernie's book can help. It's filled with information and resources designed to get you to take action on those "how to's". It inspires and motivates you to take stock of your life and create a life that fills you with joy and abundance. It teaches that riches come from living in within your values and being true to yourself. Once you have that, the money and more importantly, happiness and fulfillment will follow. If you are unhappy in your work (or retirement) and want to find something more fulfilling and yes, even fun, this is a great book to help you put in place all the internal ingredients (desire, commitment, persistence, etc), so that you can take action and achieve your dreams.

A Plan for Professional Freedom and Personal Fulfillment,
By
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
Ernie Zelinski provides motivation, inspiration and guidance in his book "Real Success Without a Real Job". Ernie's purpose in writing this book is to help the reader develop personal potential and to fulfill their dreams.
The book provides thought provoking questions and exercises that help you discover what it is you really love to do. There is a natural progression and action steps to help strategize your plan. Zelinski helps the reader recognize that career success is more than having a real job. Real career success comes from enjoying your work and having the freedom to perform that work just about any time you want. He inspires you to create your own dream job or to operate an unconventional business. To accomplish this you must find your mission or true calling, a passion for something with which you can meet your needs. Zelinski stresses that creating a new career requires courage as well as desire. Throughout the book the author uses letters and stories from readers who have attained amazing success without a real job. He also uses experiences from his own life to show how the powerful success principles emphasized in this book can help you. Personally, I appreciated the quotes and pithy sayings from well known personalities featured as highlight sidebars throughout each chapter. He not only provides quotations but also recommends other authors and helpful career books and motivational resources. Ernie's book creates an environment for creative dynamic thinking. He leads the reader to take that first step of risk needed to turn a passion for living into rewarding financial fulfillment "without a real job."

Many ideas for working independently,
By
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
If you're working at a job and wondering what it would be like to be your own boss, whether doing contract work or owning a business, this is a great book to get your creative juices flowing. Ernie Zelinski's "Four Steps to Creating a Dream Career" include inner exploration, outer exploration, decision making, and implementation. He also highlights the steps to take to connect your existing skill set to a dream job or business venture. He focuses also on the benefits of developing your dream career, which include work you actually enjoy (and an environment in which to enjoy it = no politics), plus more time for the people you love and activities you have been missing while you've been at that job you're not so crazy about.

Quit wasting your life!,
By
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
This is the second of Ernie Zelinski's books that I've read ...and I like this one even more than I liked his "Hot to Retire Happy Wild & Free". My one small complaint about his earlier book was that I thought he'd glossed over what it takes for many people to achieve the personal insights he talked about. Well, he makes up for that in spades in Real Success without a Real Job.
I'm a Life Transition Coach with a specialty in retirement lifestyle coaching and I've already recommended this book to several clients and friends because it is comprehensive, straightforward, compassionate and kicks butt! Zelinski is very honest with people about what it takes to live outside the corporate world and it is clear throughout this book that he believes wholeheartedly that the price to be paid for the 'real' job (i.e. perceived safety) of organizational life is far greater than that for an 'unreal' job. As a corporate refugee of 10 year's duration, I can only agree with Zelinski's perspective. I especially liked the later chapters where he deals with issues of personal growth and development as well as spiritual evolution and the power of friendships. I'm a life coach and it is wonderful to hear someone else be so supportive of the difference what I have to offer can make to people. I also think that he has done the world a great service in exposing the 'illusion' of work-based friendships. I could go on and on about this book, but suffice it to say that I kept thinking "gee, person X could benefit from this perspective" as I read Real Success with a Real Job. And when I was finished I realized that I was feeling energized about projects I've let slide and was experiencing a surge of renewed enthusiasm for life. Surely both great testaments to the power of this book. Thanks Ernie!

How to Live and Have Personally Fulfilling Work,
By
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
Do you measure your life through dollars and cents or by personal satisfaction? If it's the latter and you feel trapped in a job, working hard to maintain a lifestyle you don't value and don't know how to escape....you have to read this book!
I discovered Ernie Zelinski's book The Joy of Not Knowing it All last year and have been a raving fan ever since. In Real Success Without a Real Job, each chapter systematically deals with rethinking faulty belief systems and obstacles we tend to put in our own way, things that stop us from getting what we want in life. I recommend Ernie's books to clients regularly and this is his best book yet! Anyone who wants to change their work will find the information in this book invaluable. It's an easy, quick read that's hard to put down. And it's full of solid information from someone who lives what he writes about.

For all of us who are "organizationally averse",
By Marketing Maven (Bridgeport, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
I read the entire book in less than 24 hours! Just couldn't put it down. As luck would have it, I was embarking on my own path after 25 years in corporate America when I learned about the book.
Real Success Without a Real Job gives sound advice mixed with funny and touching inspirational quotes by those who have achieved great things in life after realizing they too were "organizationally averse", just like the author Ernie Zelinski. As someone who spent their entire career in marketing, I can very much relate to Chapter 5 about the importance of marketing (which is called "It's Not Just an Unreal Job - It's a Real Business") and now plan on applying everything I've done for corporations to myself and the small and micro businesses I plan to serve in my start-up marketing consulting firm (as well as the book I've started writing). After all, now I can use all those ideas that bosses deemed "too risk". Funny, how years later half of those corporations are either now out of business, or were bought out by competitors. Now those bosses have bosses - wonder how they like them apples! As I've always said "Corporate America is no place for smart people", Ernie, thank you for a tremendously uplifting experience and a great book to add to my personal library.

A career book for the times,
By
This review is from: Real Success Without a Real Job: There Is No Life Like It! (Paperback)
This is by far the best career book I've read. Books like "What Color Is your Parachute" and "Refuse to Choose" just never really struck a chord with me like this book did. Zelinski doesn't try to label you or fit you in to some category. Rather, you get the sense that anything is possible - the author himself is the best example in the book! He failed English as an engineer and still went on to become a successful author, even after so many people told him he could not. You can get where you want to go - all it takes is determination, perseverance, and shunning the non-believers.

I agree with a previous reviewer who commented "Wow." This is desktop publishing at its worst. The ideas and advice are simplistic. The text rambles. The inspirational quotes are straight from a Bartlett's compendium. This is the hundred-plus-page equivalent of the cliched wisdom corporate motivational poster hanging in break rooms and cubicles across America -- only without the breathtaking photos.
