Funky disco group of the seventies,
By
This review is from: Real Thing Best of (Audio CD)
The Real Thing were a British disco group that came to public attention with a number one UK hit, You to me are everything, in 1976. This funky up-tempo song was in many ways a typical slice of seventies disco music, but it was a great song, superbly performed and deserved to top the charts. The follow-up, Can't get by without you, was a similar type of song and made number two.
After that, the Real Thing had seven other UK hits between 1977 and 1980, of which one (Can you feel the force) made the top five and two others (You'll never know what you're missing, Whenever you want my love) made the top twenty. There were four minor hits (Love's such a wonderful thing, Let's go disco, Boogie down get funky now, She's a groovy freak). In 1986, they had further hits with re-mixes of their three biggest hits. They also had a very minor hit with a new song (Straight to the heart) on a different record label, which isn't here but doesn't matter. If you enjoy seventies disco music, give the Real Thing a listen. This compilation contains all the essentials.

I first saw this band live in the early 80s in Europe. They left an impression on me. They had all the moves of the Isley Bros, the ballads of Barry White, and the smooth vocals of the Four Tops. This CD was well worth the money, and I'd recommend it to anybody that likes good soul pop and disco. My favorite is the reggae sounding "Roll My Number". Enjoy the Real Thing!
