Sizzla is Back on the right track.,

Finally this is what I've been waiting for a real album by sizzla. This CD is entittled Da real thing and indeed it is. This is a smooter, mellower vibe. the songs are tight and I have to commend Bobby Digital for bringing out the best in sizzla. I love all 15 tracks on this album but my favorites are thank u mamma, she's loving, just one of those days, why should I?, simplicity, woman I need you and boom & go through. Please get this CD you won't be disappointed. Beautiful music,

The Realness Fe True,

After a string of dissapointments, Sizzla finally did come with the real thing indeed. It was the opinion of many fans that Kalonji fell off and fizzled out by saturating the market with so many albums (up to 5 a year) and trading the positive Rasta voice he had toward women for slackness and lewd sexual comments. Well we can put that aside and forget about it (at least for now) with the release of Sizzla's latest from VP. In my opinion this is another Rasta classic, well produced and filled with concious and positive songs. It easily matches his earliest works. Starting off with Mash Dem Down the vibes start flowing and song after song Sizzla keeps it sizzlin'. Simplicity is a testimony for Rastafari, to live clean and simple, Solid As A Rock teaches ones to stand firm, Thank U Mamma is the hit song that shows love and respect for his mother and the theme of the Black woman is continued in the next song of Woman I Need You praising a strong and spiritual woman. It is an echo from Black Woman & Child. Other great songs are Why Should I, and Bless Up. Just One Of Those Days is a song about heartache over a woman and dealing with mistakes... a truly sensitive issue in the league of Junior Kelly... I could really feel Sizzla on that song. So many blessed tunes on here, the whole album is fantastic. Well almost, the last track Touch Me is kinda out of place and isn't that good, but its forgivable especially since its the last track. This album is a must... the riddims and productions are tight inna Rasta dancehall style, and Sizzla has re-earned his title as Kalonji the Priest. Buy this album and add it to your collection. Tell dem Sizzla, mash down Babylon!

Same Ole', Same Ole',

When Sizzla Kalonji really tries to make good music, in my opinion their is no one better in reggae music, lyrically he can be downright shocking and astonishing, the man truly has another level he can take it to. However, he has recieved a ton of criticism for changing his lyrics to everywhere in an 'experimental' phase even being ultra slack, and yelling often.
That being said Da Real Thing is truly the real thing, this album is a flawless project which is what happens when Sizzla actually tries his talent takes over and effortlessly rides every Bobby Digital produced track to perfection and leaves the listener wanting more. Check the best tune on this record (which is hard to be on this excellent album) Thank You Mama which is vintage Sizzla and very well could have fit well on his opus Black Woman & Child, the totally mellow vibe he pushes throughout the record is just totally refreshing and such a far cry from albums such as Blaze Up the Chalwa (not a bad record) and Blaze Fire Blaze, he just rules the flow calmly and still gets the message across. Also check the ultra tight Solid as a Rock, Simplicity, Woman I Need You,Mash Dem Down, Rejoice, Why Should I? and Boom and Go Through, and I assure you that every tune i didn't mention is very good as well. I admit that I am very partial, Sizzla is my favourite artist, but I think this is the best album that I've heard this year (respect Warrior King). Is it Black Woman & Child? No. Nothing is, but even being one level down from that album is still a beautiful and perfect in its own way record. You should definitely go pick this up if you havent already, it somewhat reminds me of the Freedom Cry album with its vibe for some reason. AMAZING?

This album is SO FUN to listen to. Sizzla constantly entertains with something different and fresh. Why Should I, Simplicity, Got It Right Here and Bless Up are among the many great tunes. I've had it for a year and I still listen to it weekly.

Sizzla-Solid as a Rock--Roots--Reggae,
By Malcolm Malachi (brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Da Real Thing (Audio CD)
ladies and gentlemen-Sizzla has awaken another sub-genre once again. Please listen to what he is telling us. Love our women and respect one another. "Rejoice" in music because it is the healing force that moves the earth right now. Listen to the riddim on Rejoice and connect the beat to Buju Bantan's murderer and that ought to tap you into what Jamaican music is truly about. It is all about love for social, political collectivity. This album is an inspiration from the man who brought us Black woman and child. He has returned like the prodigal son lost in the wilderness of a misguided dancehall generation that only boast opposition to each other. Like Bob Marley said: "music is music. all of my family ah music." Sizzla has embraced his international family with this fresh aray of musical hierarchy that only seeks to liberate the minds of a many called and a few chosen. Sizzla, I knew you will come back to your true and everlasting roots. I love this album. People, I beg you to go and buy this now. It made a difference in a community of negative when such songs like she's loving, simplicity, thank u mama, why should I only create positvity.

Lyrically Outside of the Box,

Sizzla's voice is out of the box of conventional reggae vocals. He has the most unique, unconventional, free flowing soulful reggae vocals in the industry. The band backs him up with some classic roots, bass heavy melodies and his backup singers add an essential ingredient to the chorus of most songs.

Worth the Wait,

This Album was the best that Kalongi released in a long time.Sizzla has always done well to sing "love songs" and he does not disappoint with She's Loving, or Just one of Those Days. This album reminds me of Sizzla's earlier album Black Woman and Child filled with good lyrics and a message.Solid as a rock, can be your anthem, and its a really great song to hear in a session the drum accompaniment is wicked. The album is definetly worth listening to, you can just let it play, and it definetly gets my "pull up"

One of the best,
This review is from: Da Real Thing (Audio CD)
This is one of the Best Reggae CDs I've listen to in a while. Being a native of Jamaicaand all that, I know about these things.
This CD was very professional, and there were actually good songs with every verse being great. MAKE NO MISTAKES FOLKS - I'm a dancehall reggae fan, but this music is so universally good that even the hardest dancehall reggae music fan can find something in there. My favorites are: 3. Solid As A Rock (Great single) 4. Rejoice (Great song, Fantastic my 2nd fave) 7. Bless Up (sober) 11. Trod Mt. Zion (Personally I think this is the best song on the album) 12. Its Amazing (Sober!) The rest are really good. Sizzla put together a solid CD. He even added a track for the weed smokers with "Got It Right Here" hahaha "Boom & Go Through" Give you a hiphop feel "Simplicity" is solid

Kalonji Means Victorious!,
By "dandada" (Los Angeles via Belize) - See all my reviews

Da Real Thing is just that. Every track on this CD is repeat worthy. One of those rare CD's that you can listen to straight through from beginning to end. This CD was released in late 2002 and at least 7 tracks received major airplay throughout the Caribbean and other reggae circuits. As a matter of fact it is still going strong. There is another Sizzla album that was released after this one but it is still overshadowed by Da Real Thing. Solid As a Rock is used on a Ja Rule song. My personal favorite is Just One of Those Days. You don't have to be a rasta to relate to this album. Thank U Mama on the One to One Riddim and Simplicity are some other very strong tracks. This was definitely the reggae album of 2002 and 2003. Definitely the best reggae album I've heard in a while. Big ups to di one Sizzla Kalonji. Mash Dem Down wid di good vibes. Jah over all!
