Jilly from Philly,

This review is from: The Real Thing: Words And Sounds Vol. 3 [CD/DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
Jill scott is one artist that continues to put out solid music year after year. With her third release she continues this streak by displaying thoughtful lyrics, a beautiful voice, and some nice tracks. The tracks range from having a slight rock tinge to just relaxing smooth tracks. Since Jill just got divorced, I was worried that this album would be overwhelmed with depressing songs. This is not the case. You can tell it affected her but she still has a nice mix of lyrics and songs. Favorites for me on the album are "all I", "how it make you feel", and "the real thing". This is a very nice album, cop it.
In the day and age of you tube and other websites that feature videos I don't know if the dvd version of this album is worth it. If you can watch the videos anytime for free why buy a dvd of the videos?

Jill Scott does it again--and wow!,

I finally received my copy of Jill Scott's "The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3," and I have to say that it is the best album I have heard in the past year, with Musiq Soulchild's "Luvanmusic" coming in at a close second. This album is deep, moving, strong, building, and has the power to affect my mood in ways I didn't imagine.
The album is banging and hard-hitting. Although it contains less of the spoken word that listeners are accustomed to hearing from her, Scott surprises listeners by including several smooth raps as well as maintaining the story-telling aspects for which she is known. Musical arrangements manage to fuse jazz, funk, soul, and gospel roots seamlessly, and one song jumps to the next in logical progress. The interview Scott does on the bonus CD offers explanations to some of her songs (the soundbites that were on the sampler), and the video for "My Love" shows a vulnerable side to Jill (she starts to cry during her performance) that reminds fans she's willing to bear herself in ways that others artists cover in glitz and glam. While I like EVERY song on the album, some of my favorites include: "Wanna Be Loved," "How It Make You Feel," "My Love," and "Come See Me." A great buy, and something you'll be listening to for quite some time (just like her last albums)!

This album IS The Real Thing!,
This review is from: The Real Thing: Words And Sounds Vol. 3 [CD/DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
Let me start this review by saying: If you haven't purchased The Real Thing yet, do it now! It is such an amazing collection of Words and Sounds that Jill Scott is known for. The songs on this album are nothing short of classic Jill Scott music. With a newer, sexier, braver, more independent sound and voice, Jill has done it again. If you loved her first two albums, you will adore the growth heard on Volume 3. And if you're a newcomer, you're even better off because this album is nothing like what's being pushed out there - the lyrics are real, the music is real, and Jill Scott is The Real Thing. Enjoy this album as an affirmation of self and a true look into the soul of not only Jill Scott, but of the human spirit everywhere. The universal themes addressed are clearly seen from the start with "Let It Be", "The Real Thing", "Hate On Me", "Whenever You're Around", and "Wanna Be Loved." The sensual Jill Scott is heard with "Come See Me", "Crown Royal", "Epiphany", and "All I." And the soul-baring raw emotion of "My Love" cannot be matched. In order to answer the original question WHO IS JILL SCOTT? one must listen to the entire album to grasp the full experience of the BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN artist who has evolved into THE REAL THING. The quest is not over, but we are coming to an answer to that original question, and it can only be: Jill Scott.
