THE BEST BIOGRAPHY I'VE SEEN ABOUT THOMAS JEFFERSON---,
By
This review is from: The Real Thomas Jefferson (American Classic Series) (Paperback)
---In ONE volume!!What is so good is that Andrew Allison completely documents his history so that you get a really clear view of Thomas Jefferson. I also appreciate the fact that the author doesn't pander to the sleaze that so many authors resort to in order to make a few extra sales. In fact he shows why the recent smear tactics on Jefferson are fraudulent. THREE CHEERS FOR ANDREW ALLISON FOR HIS COURAGE TO TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT JEFFERSON!!! The last 330 pages of text contain quotations from Thomas Jefferson himself on many different subjects. Each of these quotations is placed alphabetically according to the subject that it deals with. This way a reader can use this book as a reference to look up what Thomas Jefferson believed on any particular issue. This last section of the book was prepared by Cleon Skousen, Richard Maxfield and Delynn Cook, and is, by itself, worth the price of the book. --George Stancliffe

Accurate and easy to read,

This review is from: Real Thomas Jefferson (Volume 1 of the American classic series) (Hardcover)
I purchased this book probably 18 years ago. After reading it, I looked to buy several more copies to give as gifts. But, I couldn't find anymore. So, I called The Center For Constitutional Studies for their help. I told the person who answered the phone what I was looking for and why. I told this guy that I loved the book and how well I thought it was written. He said, "Thank you". You see, the guy who answered the phone was Andrew Allison, the author of The Real Thomas Jefferson.
I think you will really enjoy this book.

"The Real Thomas Jefferson" is a biography about the sad but inspiring life of Thomas Jefferson . In the back of the book it has quotes from Jefferson on different subjects. " The Real Thomas Jefferson" tells a lot of what Jefferson thought government should be like and what kind of man he was . It also tells about all the invention like the copy press etc. etc. "The Real Thomas Jefferson" also tells about his life in France, and his influence on the constitution . It also talks about the loss of his 5 children and his wife and also his love for his remaining family . It tells about his love for books, and the outdoors, and his home,. The Real Thomas Jefferson tells about his Presidency and all the trouble he had with the press . I recommend this book to people how want to learn about Jefferson and the government. It is very detailed and I think it made me way smarter. The Real Thomas Jefferson, by Andrew M. Allison published in 1987

Andrew Allison'a "The Real Thomas Jefferson" is truly a treasure.Starting out with a really informative and well written short biography, and then going into an alphabetical section of Jefferson's views according to his actual quotes really makes this book shine. Jefferson is shown in his true glory as a champion of the common man, and a defender of liberty and freedom. It is also an excellent biography of his sterling character refuting the lies and propaganda about the alleged Hemings affair. A revolutionary, politician, architect, scientist this was Jefferson, an "American Da Vinci" so to speak. Particularly informative is the section showing his lifelong support for public education, and religious freedom. A great buy.

Wow what a wonderful book on T. Jefferson!! This book should be required reading in all of our schools. It is hard to believe that one man could accomplish all this man did! It is mind blowing! A must read for anyone going to the Lincoln Memorial to meet Glenn Beck and Company August 28, 2010. Restores your faith in what this country could be again.

This book is one in a series of books which seeks to create history for religious purposes. Thomas Jefferson is a complicated enigma. A man of incredible intelligence, yet a man plagued with internal contradictions. Jefferson provides polemicists of all stripes a wealth of great quotes that can be mined and used to provide credibility to many philosophies or dogmas. Real attempts to write about Jefferson understand this, and there are many biographies of Jefferson that are appropriately objective. This book is not among them. This book is historical fable-making in order to strengthen both a particular religious, as well as a well coupled political agenda.
This book's objective is clearly to show Jefferson as someone who believed in strict construction of the constitution, who had an innate sense of the divine nature of that document. Told from a Mormon perspective, it seeks to interpret Jefferson's concerns about Christian dogmas and practices in the context of the Mormon belief that the founders of the nation were merely laying the foundation for a return of "true Christianity" as revealed by God to Joseph Smith. By quote-mining Jefferson, the author seeks to create a picture of Jefferson, unhappy with Christianity of his day, but hopeful for a return of the real McCoy at a later date. If you are a politically conservative Mormon looking to strengthen your faith in this particular worldview, I highly recommend this book. However, if you are a serious student of U.S. history, there are a vast number of biographies of Jefferson which aren't burdened with a political/religious agenda.

Good basic overview.,
This review is from: The Real Thomas Jefferson (American Classic Series) (Paperback)
This is a good basic overview of the life of Thomas Jefferson but does lack a lot of details and does not go in depth about his personal political conflicts or history as a statesman. It is a good start but does gloss over much that needs to be included to understand Jefferson in relation to his times. I would expect this of such a short book.

As current historians with a political agenda continue to downplay and demonize our Founding Fathers "The Real Thomas Jefferson" in the American Classic Series tells us who and what this man really was. In today's world few even know who this man is not to speak of what he did in building our great country. Of especial value are page after page of Thomas Jefferson's own words on many various subjects. Recently I was able enlighten a very liberal young Social Studies teacher from information gained from this book.

Excellent - Couldn't Put It Down. I was afraid it would be boring but it wasn't. My 14 yr. old son also read and enjoyed it. I finished this several months ago and have gone back and re-read various sections. The reference section and Writings section are a huge bonus as well. I would recommend this book for the casual reader as well as for advanced study. check out The Real Benjamin Franklin (American Classic Series) and The Real George Washington (American Classic Series) as well.

This is one of the best, most informative books I've ever read. The detail with which the book was written makes the reader feel as though he has actually met face to face with Jefferson. Also, the numerous writings of Jefferson himself that are captured in the second part of the book are absolutely fascinating. The only discouraging thing I can say about the book is it really makes me realize how far our country has drifted from its original founding.
