Book Description

February 2, 2010
Real-Time Connections, by Bob Roberts Jr., will show you how to use your everyday passions to make a global impact ... while staying attentive to your job, your home, and your family. The Great Commission is not just for professional clergy; it is a charge to every follower of Christ---ordinary Christians like you and me. Bob Roberts urges you as a disciple of Jesus to reclaim your share in God's transforming work around the globe. Roberts illuminates the ways that Christians from any walk of life can use the everyday skills of their career and/or passion in service of God's kingdom. Today's global economy offers you, a follower of Jesus, opportunities to interact with nations and people groups once accessed only by remote missionaries. This book demonstrates the world-changing possibilities your vocation holds when used in service of God's kingdom. 'Real Time Connections forges a new path as Christianity addresses a globalized world. It is well worth reading.' - Bob Buford, founder, Leadership Network

Editorial Reviews

Review

This book beats with the fire and passion of this crazy Texan who really believes the church can make a difference in the world. Bob gets it. You will too as you walk with Bob in this book that pulsates with his heart for God and the world. --Dave Gibbons, author of Monkey and The Fish and CVO of XEALOT.NET

I have known and admired Bob Roberts for years. He is a leader in the movement to convert belief to action and proclamation to credible demonstration. Roberts is bold. He is adventurous. And he's biblical. He is a consummate connector. Real Time Connections forges a new path as Christianity addresses a globalized world. It is well worth reading. --Bob Buford, Founder, Leadership Network

Bob Roberts has done it again in Real Time Connections. He's written a book that is readable, honest and powerful. It's a book for everyone! It offers real life answers to how followers of Jesus around the world can partner with God as he changes nations through their everyday lives. This book is unique in that it deals with the mega-issues of our planet, yet brings it home (literally) by compelling us to be involved. I loved it! --Carl Medearis, Author "Muslims, Christians and Jesus"

5.0 out of 5 stars Words or Deeds? February 20, 2010
Format:Paperback
Gospel Centric, Nine Marks, Missional, Evangelical, Emergent, Progressive, Traditional ... all are words used to describe ideologies of churches looking for a real way to engage people with the message of Jesus. In Real-Time Connections, Bob Roberts puts all of these competing ideologies to the side and focuses on the heart of the message of Jesus, to go and make disciples of all nations. Using his own practical experience, Bob allows the reader to be carried on a journey full of new vantage points. Each chapter challenges the readers current paradigm and invites them to dream of what God can do in a global economy of believers living out their passion. He forces the reader to utilize their own skill set and vocation to advance transformation of the worldwide community and proclaim the redemptive work of God. It is no longer enough for the people of God to be admirers or attendees of the church. We must all accept the mandate of Jesus to become carriers of good news to all people in all places. I highly recommend this book to pastors, leaders and every person who attends a local church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move them Chunky Legs! February 20, 2010
Format:Paperback
If you are a plumber go dig water wells, if you are a police man go teach security best practices, if you are a teacher you can bring innovative curriculum to a place that is in need of it. There are no more excuses for you to sit on your rear and not to do something...none. Real-Time Connections offers a way for ordinary people to take hold of their job and make a difference with it both locally and globally.

We have done such a great job of segmenting our life so that we have work, home, friends, and community but this is a sick way of thinking. Most of our time is at a job so we might as well become an expert at that job and and share that expertise with others. Its not about exporting Western Ideals it is about serving. This is Linchpin by Seth Godin for Christians.

This is Roberts' best book to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Job & God's Global Work February 22, 2010
Format:Paperback
A must read for anyone who wants to truly impact his/her community.

Have you ever had the gnawing feeling that you're not doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing or that there's more to where you're at? What if we are exactly where we're supposed to be but we're just not doing all that God has instore for us. In his latest book, Bob Roberts tries to help us understand how we should be "going."

My two favorite chapters have been one and three. In chapter one, Roberts talks about four misunderstandings the church has. In chapter three, Roberts talks about a person's job being his ministry. My favorite quote is, "Those deep longings most of us feel to make a difference in the world are our dim recognition of God's call to us. In our heart of hearts, we want God to use us."

My first Roberts book, but definitely not my last.
