3.0 out of 5 stars Globalization and Mobilization
Real Time Connections is a book that explains globalization and member mobilization. Bob Roberts shares many stories in the book that reflect his own experiences and conversations with others. I found the stories to be the most helpful and practical part of the book. Bob's transparency and heart for Jesus and the world is evident throughout Real Time Connections...

This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
Gospel Centric, Nine Marks, Missional, Evangelical, Emergent, Progressive, Traditional ... all are words used to describe ideologies of churches looking for a real way to engage people with the message of Jesus. In Real-Time Connections, Bob Roberts puts all of these competing ideologies to the side and focuses on the heart of the message of Jesus, to go and make disciples of all nations. Using his own practical experience, Bob allows the reader to be carried on a journey full of new vantage points. Each chapter challenges the readers current paradigm and invites them to dream of what God can do in a global economy of believers living out their passion. He forces the reader to utilize their own skill set and vocation to advance transformation of the worldwide community and proclaim the redemptive work of God. It is no longer enough for the people of God to be admirers or attendees of the church. We must all accept the mandate of Jesus to become carriers of good news to all people in all places. I highly recommend this book to pastors, leaders and every person who attends a local church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move them Chunky Legs!, February 20, 2010
This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
If you are a plumber go dig water wells, if you are a police man go teach security best practices, if you are a teacher you can bring innovative curriculum to a place that is in need of it. There are no more excuses for you to sit on your rear and not to do something...none. Real-Time Connections offers a way for ordinary people to take hold of their job and make a difference with it both locally and globally.

We have done such a great job of segmenting our life so that we have work, home, friends, and community but this is a sick way of thinking. Most of our time is at a job so we might as well become an expert at that job and and share that expertise with others. Its not about exporting Western Ideals it is about serving. This is Linchpin by Seth Godin for Christians.

This is Roberts' best book to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Job & God's Global Work, February 22, 2010

This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
A must read for anyone who wants to truly impact his/her community.

Have you ever had the gnawing feeling that you're not doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing or that there's more to where you're at? What if we are exactly where we're supposed to be but we're just not doing all that God has instore for us. In his latest book, Bob Roberts tries to help us understand how we should be "going."

My two favorite chapters have been one and three. In chapter one, Roberts talks about four misunderstandings the church has. In chapter three, Roberts talks about a person's job being his ministry. My favorite quote is, "Those deep longings most of us feel to make a difference in the world are our dim recognition of God's call to us. In our heart of hearts, we want God to use us."

My first Roberts book, but definitely not my last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this book... it will pull you up and out..., February 20, 2010

This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
Real-Time Connections can help any sincere follower of Jesus with clear tracks to embrace and engage the Great Commission.... Full of Holy Spirit illumination (not just information) this book was medicine to my soul. In simple language Bob will encourage you to seek the place in life God has prepared (and waiting) for you for his purpose... I especially liked the framework that Bob presented in Chapter 5 for Living as a Disciple... I constantly found myself saying to myself... "I can do that... I can start there..." This is a great book... it will shake you and rattle out error... and encourage you to get in the game...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob's Best!, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
This is a very engaging book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I've read all of Bob's books and I think this is his best yet. In this one he quotes Os Guiness' book "The Call" quite a bit, and puts legs to some of the theological & conceptual things Guiness talks about. I loved Guiness' book so this was especially enjoyable to me. However, his last 3 chapters were the best! Every American Christian should read these chapters. D.Glenn Smith

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential and pratical tool for living out God's calling, February 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
Bob provides an essential and practical tool for both individuals and churches to live out their calling. As individuals, many people are stuck in jobs, or vocations and are not satisfied because they miss God's calling. Churches are stagnating because people aren't released to fulfill their callings in the world and ministry is left to the few ministerial "professionals". This book provides a tool for releasing individuals and churches to be all that God intended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Redefine, not relearn., February 21, 2010
This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
Bob Roberts' most recent work gives real insight into not only where the church should be going but where it could take you, as well. Many a time, Christians fall prey to the notion that they're waiting to be called by God to do his work and only then will they prepare for what God wants them to do. But what if instead, the calling is as simple and foundational as any other tenet of the faith? And that God has been preparing you all along for where you are now and where you will go? Your life experiences, your previous employers, your sunday school classes; those were your seminary. God wants you working for him. But not necessarily in a church. Maybe God needs you right where you are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rethinking the Great Commission, February 20, 2010
By

This review is from: Real-Time Connections: Linking Your Job with God's Global Work (Paperback)
Bob writes that the Great Commission is not just about changing lives, it's about changing the world. For this kind of global transformation to occur we must make disciples rather than converts. Best of all, he challenges us that preachers are not the key to the Great Commission, ordinary followers of Christ are. As I read the first chapter I began to see the faces of people in my church who could change the world by making disciples right where they live and work. I will be giving a copy of this book to all of my leaders!

This book is exactly what I've been trying to put into words for years. As someone who has a pastoral and secular background, this book gives practical ways that I can serve/love others wherever I am. Bob's genuine love for people of all faith's, backgrounds and circumstances permeates this book. I love a quote in chapter 6 that says, "I serve others, not to convert, but BECAUSE Ive been converted" and I will remember that the rest of my life. Thanks Bob!

Everyone asks the question, "What is God's will for my life?" This book helps to answer that question with profound insight, provoking questions and powerful stories. I read it in two sittings and I was amazed at all the practical application I found. I can't wait to share it with the people in my circles of influence.
