Glory returns in another installment from the exceptionally talented Gerry Bartlett! I loved this book even more than the first. Bartlett actually creates a vampire world that the reader can relate to. And she also makes us laugh!!!! Glory's character is touching, funny, sexy--everything a vamp should be and more. Keep them coming, Ms. Bartlett!! I can't wait for the next Glory adventure.

Glory is Back! Yippy. (B+ Grade),

This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Glory, beautiful and the larger than life vamp is back with her hilarious motley crew of undead friends and other shape shifters. Glory this time around has a little triangle going between Gerry, her maker and one true love, or at least lust and Richard who use to be her roommate's fling. Both men adore the person Glory is and they are not afraid to show it. They adore a woman with curves, and she has them, rightly so. It is about time an author showcased a "real" woman in a wonderful interpretation.
Along with the every day issues like running her store, dating and helping her friends out, Glory also has to watch her back because vampire hunters are after her and there is now a black market blood type Viagra, in which one night Glory drinks by accident and you can just imagine what happens (Richard is there this time and not Gerry). The first person point of view of Glory is so funny and her attraction for Gerry and visa-versa is hot and cute. A true laugh a minute and if only Glory was a real person! For fans of vampires that have fun and live life to the fullest, this is one read that won't disappoint! Katiebabs Real Vampires Have Curves (Glory St. Claire, Book 1)

This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is even better that the first "Real Vampires Have Curves". Once again we delve into the life of Ms. Gloriana St. Clair, and her relationships within the vamp community of Austin, Texas. Westwood, the vamp hunter, is still out there, but now Glory is also dealing with a group called the EV's who want to tap her power. Glory had her store burned, Blades left town to hunt Westwood down, a creepy ex is stalking her,and along with Valdez she has a new "protector" all while dealing with her famous curves. What I like best about this book, is the fact that Glory is finding her footing, she's finally getting more independent and powerful in her own right. Life keeps throwing objects in her path and she's dealing with them without also running the Blade. It's a great read, very funny and makes me look forward to her next adventure.

An Okay Read,

This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I believe that this book would be better had I read the first book in the series. It does stand on its own, but some of the flash backs or previous story comments are lost on a new reader. Our main vampire is a "made vampire" named Glory. She lives in Texas where she owns a vintage clothing shop, where she is trying to eek out a living. She is obsessed with most things girly. And is always on the look out for mister right. Glory's story revolves around her roommate, boy toy, and saved up energy that strange drug crazed vampires want. I found the characters likable; the story flows well and has just enough sexiness to keep you entertained.

I loved this book and can't wait for more with Glory. I get tired of reading books about the "perfect" woman. It's good to read about a woman who's not some skinny minnie. This was an enjoyable book to read and it made ma laugh a lot.

Real Vamps II is Even Better!,

This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you loved Real Vampires Have Curves, prepared to be wowed by Real Vampires Live Large.
Glory St. Clair, the curvaceous, centuries old vamp, thanks to a man, is back and fighting off evil forces determined to mess with her independence. Also back is her maker and on/off again lover, yummy Jeremy Blade. When Glory's vintage clothing shop is fire-bombed, Jeremy is convinced that vampire hunter Westwood (introduced in the first book) is responsible. But this time, there are Energy Vampires (EVs) determined to steal Glory's stored-up power -- in order to make Vampire Viagra. Real Vampires Have Curves is even funnier, hotter, and more action-packed than Real Vampires Live Large. The chemistry between Jeremy and Glory is even stronger, and Glory's first person narration is every bit as compelling as in the first book. Glory is the sort of character you don't forget because she's like your best friend --with lovable imperfections and a big heart. If you missed book one, never fear. Bartlett makes it easy for new readers to jump into Real Vampires Live Large. My recommendation is to buy both, however, because after you read one, you'll want the other. Trust me, Bartlett's Vamp books are like potato chips -- you can't read just one!

This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Paperback)
Glory is back and as curvy and vivacious as ever. This curvy chic has alot on her hands this go around. Blade has took off to look for the demented vamp hunter/killer Westwood that has a sick fasination with Glory. She is being stalked by a crazy ex-lover and his lovely new friends the E.V. vamps. They want to suck all of her unused energy from her.Her best friend Flo has found a new hobby called Vamp Viagra and this stuff is highly addictive to vamps. Her faithful companion guard dog Valdez is as funny and real in this book as the first.Only now Blade sends Will a new guard dog that is supposed to help Valdez however Glory can't keep his fine butt from shifting back into human form and prancing around.Glory finds out that true friends are in the people/vamps that you least expect as she gets closer to Richard Mainwearing. Flos ex and past preist that has previously been cold to Glory. The laughs are on every page as Glory finds herself becoming more indepenent than ever as this book comes to a close. I can't wait until book #3 because the more I read about Glory the more I see we all have a little Glory in us somewhere.

A Mess,
By SHZ (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
It saddens me to see this book getting so many positive reviews. It is a testament to the fact most readers don't really care about quality.
Our gimmicky fat vampire is back doing a lot of talking and very little else. Glory once again engages in drawn-out perverted sex that does nothing to further the plot; goes on and on about every vintage item she sells in her shop; devote entire chapters to pointless side stories; and all the while does a whole lot of nothing. This is one of the most boring books I have ever read, and I am shocked that the editor did not do something to fix it. The constant overuse of terms such as `vintage'; the way author Gerry Bartlett tells us again and again about Damian's reputation and Glory's relationship with Blade, and Florence's lovers. It's like she's decided we cannot retain information for more than a couple of pages, and feels the need to beat us over the heads with the same erroneous stuff time and time again. Just as with the first book the protagonist's actions are generally stupid and nonsensical - Glory will receive some shocking information, and then instead of taking action she'll go and sell a pair of `vintage jeans' and a `vintage suit'. The plot is lost in the endless listing of items in Glory's shop, and of what every single character is wearing - down to colour and brand. Instead of defying stereotypes and doing anything particularly worthwhile, Glory is still dithering around the fringes of the action while all the hunky men who inexplicably desire her do all the hard work. As I said about the first book. If Bartlett hadn't used the gimmick of creating a vampire who was worried about her weight (if Glory was thinner and more attractive) would there be anything about this story for the average woman to enjoy??!! Absolutely not. Go out and buy the Sookie Stackhouse books to see how this kind of story should be done.

Bad, bad, bad!!,
By HNS (Somewhere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Real Vampires Live Large (Glory St. Claire, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This series is embarrassing.
The author has cleverly made her protagonist a bit big, and boy have the women ever flocked to a `realistic' character. Glory once again stays in her antifeminist place, selling vintage this and vintage that while all the men run around after her for no apparent reason. After centuries she still will not commit to a relationship with a man she clearly cares for...just because. She strings people along, knowing they'll all run to her rescue even though she appears to have few redeeming qualities. It makes me sad this tripe is being rated so highly. Go and read Sookie Stackhouse. |
