Delightful book,
By
This review is from: The Real World of Fairies: A First-Person Account (Paperback)
Dora Von Gelder Kunz here presents her experience of the world of fairy. In almost anthropological detail she describes different kinds of fairies and the angels that guide them. All the descriptions contain personal anecdotes of the author's own contact with the realm that lies just in the corner of our eyes. Now, of course Von Gelder could be making all this up. If she is, then this work is a startling work of detailed imagination. If she's not, then we would do well to heed her words. Either way, this book is a delightful way to awaken one's wonder of the natural world. Forget "science" for a moment, and open your heart.

There is a real world of fairies. What a great book!,

This review is from: The Real World of Fairies: A First-Person Account (Paperback)
I bought this book (original version)in a New Age store over 10 years ago. I was searching for something I had lost many years ago. As a child, I played daily with garden fairies and tree sprites (I called them). I believe that Dora had a different name for them. I have always known that there are other worlds or dimensions that exist with ours. I believe that people are really capable of multi-dimensional sight over 3-D, but only a very few have crossed over to experience it. I no longer see fairies. I wish I still did. I know they are there.Reading Dora's book gave me a wonderful feeling of knowing that there were others that feel the same way. She has explained this unexplainable world in such a talented manor. Her clarivoyance is a rare and beautiful gift. I would love to have known her and spent time with her.

A friend loaned me this book as I mentioned I had seen nature spirits as a child. I'm buying it now. The moment I started reading I realised this lady had seen what I had seen. As children these things are so precious and its so sad that they are turned into myths as we grow up. I am especially in tune with the author's descriptions of tree spirits, as I have experienced many things she did. I am really inspired by this book. The author writes in such a natural and matter-of-fact way about things that many folks find hard to accept or believe.

Believing is Seeing....,
This review is from: The Real World of Fairies: A First-Person Account (Paperback)
For a long time, I've recommended this book, especially for those who believe fairies can be seen. The forward of my 1977 edition begins by saying "...the borderline between the 'transcendental world' and the concrete world is less definite and stable than you think. The term real world has no validity." It's an opener that gets your attention, and the rest of this excellent book does the same.In her book, Van Gelder discusses the importance and fallibility of senses writing "...the desire to know sooner or later creates the necessary organs and instruments of knowledge." Through her animistic view, she sees fairies and writes of the clairvoyance that is needed to view them and the world in which they live. She acknowledges that part of the reason fairies are rarely seen is that few people try once they are grown up. Van Gelder describes devas, elementals and angels, writing that while we live in a world of form, "...they live in a world of life." Her descriptions are clear and vivid as she describes a world in which everything is alive and expressed in rhythm. She also gives insight into the world of plants and trees, water spirits, and the inter-relatedness of earth, sea and sky, which she maintains is watched over by a higher form, angels. As a person with clairvoyance, her descriptions of communication with angels are fascinating, saying that they give her "...a great number of mental pictures combined with feeling. There is only one difficulty in communicating with an angel. What he considers to be one idea to us is about twenty, and thus it takes a long time to digest what he expresses." The most fascinating part of her book is her description of storm devas and the energetic work that takes place in an area as a storm grows. She describes a feeling that many of us perceive as the weather changes and clouds begin to build. While at first glance, her ideas may seem strange and fantastical, it is easy to intuit the truth within her words. I don't profess to see fairies, but I learned a lot from Van Gelder's brilliant depictions and much of it mirrors my intuitive beliefs. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in clairvoyance, communication with nature spirits, or angelic/devic hierarchies. Seeing is believing, but to paraphrase the author, believing is can be seeing as well.

This is a delightful book and it gives a first hand account of a clairvoyant's view of the fairy world, a world that is parallel to our own. If you doubt that fairies are real, then I encourage you to read this book. I'm sure it will change your mind.

Charming at Times,
By LizPacz "n2staycation" (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Real World of Fairies: A First-Person Account (Paperback)
This is a charming little book for those who wish for insight into the mind of one who claims to have a personal relationship with fairies. I can't really say whether or not Dora van Gelder really experienced the interactions she describes in her book, though at times I felt that some of the stories were a bit too farfetched to be possible. Having neither firsthand knowledge of real world fairies nor the author, I can't say one way or the other.
From a strictly literary standpoint, the book is well written and the descriptions of each of the many types of fairies (earth, air, water, and fire) are both colorful and thorough. Many of her stories seem to carry a message, which is further emphasized in the final chapter of the book urging humans to use more care in the living world around them. Without being too preachy, van Gelder describes how fairies have been affected by mankind's intrusion upon nature and that while progress is not necessarily a bad thing, waste and pollution are destructive on many levels. I will state my surprise at how elementary and optimistic her experiences with fairies seem to be. Having read accounts from other sources, I expected that there would be more balance in the fairy world, meaning that not all faeries are sweet, harmless beings of light who dance about while helping plants and flowers to grow. Other authors on the subject seem to warn that while the fae folk can be beautiful and inspiring, much like other aspects of the spiritual and material world, not all fairy spirits are benevolent. Once again, having had no concrete experience either way, I can't say who is right or wrong. I only mention it as it seemed curious that nearly all of van Gelder's accounts describe exclusively merry interactions. Overall, this is a sweet book and I would recommend it to others who are interested in the subject matter. I especially enjoyed the chapter on tree spirits and now catch myself gazing longer at the old, knotty oak trees that stand along the edge of a state park I drive past on my way home. I will never look at them the same way again, and I have the author to thank for that.

Amazing book on the Faerie World,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Real World of Fairies: A First-Person Account (Paperback)
This book helped deepen my connection with nature and my appreciation for it. The author brought nature to life by describing in detail the spirits that embody all things in nature including mountains, rocks, clouds and trees. Although I don't see faeries (yet!), I intuitively felt what the author said as true. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who wants a real look into the faerie world.

This is an enchanting and lyrically written little book.
I bought it at a discount a few months ago and forgot all about it. It's a fairly small book, didn't know what to expect! Matthews forward is fantastic! The wonder and magic the author relates is so mesmerizing. You feel as though you are stepping into the Otherworld as you soak up her words and descriptions. You really get the sense and intuition she is not making any of the stuff up, it's all VERY real! I've read many books which claim it's 1st hand fairy accounts..but most just seem way to nonsensical and fake. This one has the tone and emotion and honesty, sincerity and magic. It's a small tome to treasure and read many times over. Very spellbinding indeed! She has helped me along my Faery Path and to see nature and all it's many beings in a very different and larger light. I am so grateful this book is still in print. What a gift.

The Real World Of Fairies relates Dora van Gelder's enchanting and joyous encounters with the fairy realm. Her gentle stories will delight, inform and entertain the reader interested in the magical, mysterious, and quite genuine world of fairies. This new and very highly recommended edition of a metaphysical classic is enhanced with a foreword by Celtic folk expert Caitlin Matthews whose own personal experiences and insightful knowledge of the fairy world contribute a fresh perspective to Dora van Gelder's intimate and personal account.

This review is from: The Real World of Fairies: A First-Person Account (Paperback)
This book is just amazing, The author goes on to cover so many of the fairy follks and the various elements and angelic beings even to the point by giving detail by detail facial description and characteristic qualities, attributes that they hold and their own life purpose. Its really is wonderful to learn all these. I especially love the topic on the nature of the hurriciane and its spiritual significance and the many elements and angels involved in this process. Its a small book, but packed with so much of wonderful experience from the author. Wow, 5 stars
