Featuring 30 chilling stories of real-life zombie encounters, this comprehensive and unsettling study draws upon traditions found throughout the world to dispel common depictions of zombies as lurching, flesh-eating automatons made popular by countless movies and books. This fascinating collection includes the stories of the Devil Baby of Bourbon Street, a monstrous creature complete with horns and tail that still lurks in the shadows of the Big Easy; Black Mama Courteaux and the great zombie war, involving hundreds of zombie soldiers battling for the supremacy of their queen; and the swamp child of Mama Cree, who still roams the bayous of Louisiana. In addition to the stories, a variety of zombie-related facts are explored, including ceremonies and initiations, zombies throughout history, sacred zombie and voodoo-related sites, and zombies and monsters of the Bible.

"Fascinating and chilling, bloodcurdling even. This comprehensive and unsettling study is an antidote to Hollywood films with their lurching, reanimated dead." SirReadaLot.org
"What I like about Brad Steiger's new book, is that he refuses to be limited by Shaun of the Dead-style zombie convention. Steiger is known for his encyclopedic exploration of ghosts, vampires and werewolves, and he lends the same exacting scrutiny to this look at reanimated corpsesand more." Linda Godfrey's Bloghouse
"A superb, and arguably definitive, look at the zombie phenomenon . . . The subject is infinitely more complex than many realize. Like a zombie itself, Brad's book grabs you by the jugular and doesn't let go!" FATE magazine
"Not recommended for reading just before bedtime." Alternate Perceptions
"The award-winning writer of more than 100 tomes about ghosts, werewolves and other night stalkers, lays to rest the misconceptions regarding the walking dead. He then goes on to tell more than 30 bone-chilling tales." Sun Magazine
"The zombie has captivated the American imagination, but where is the basis in reality? From relation to vampires and mummies, to the zombie army of Hitler, many out-there theories and ideas are presented . . . a truly fascinating read." Midwest Book Review
"The title of the book screams out as something I would want to pick up and it details information about zombies, wendigos, and a lot of other supernatural critters. Also the book's author Brad Steiger obviously took great pains to research." —Pandora's Gate
"Real Zombies, The Living Dead, And Creatures Of The Apocalypse. Brilliant!" —www.HuffingtonPost.com (November 2011)

I've read many of Brad Steiger's works and have always been impressed with his ongoing range of categories, and perhaps one of the best examples of this is the latest book "Real Zombies, the living dead, and creatures of the apocalypse". An anthology between real accounts of peoples experiences, and well researched history, this tome shouldn't be overlooked. I personally found it to be a rare blend of well researched, entertaining and of a high quality publication both in design and lay out. With some 170 titles to his credit he never ceases to amaze me with his ability to find new content to explore as well as to expand on prior topics as new technologies and wisdoms come about.
Most of his works I have found informative, this is one of the few that not only did I find insightful, but downright Creepy! One story within hit close to home, lets just say I won't be partying in any hot tubs any time soon! I hope everyone gets out of this collection as much as I did. Well done Mr. Steiger, well done indeed.
I thought the book was interesting, entertaining and fun. I now know things I did not know on subjects that I had little or no knowledge about.I find all of Brads books worth reading for just those reasons. There is so much in this world we do not understand that finding material to form some type of knowledge base from is very difficult yet important to do. I for one do not plan to spend my entire life in the dark about all the subjects we think of as paranormal . This book like all of Steigers books allow me to figure out what may or may not be going on out there in the unknown. I loved the book and think you will too.
The zombie has captivated the American imagination, but where is the basis in reality? "Real Zombies: The Living Dead, and Creatures of the Apocalypse" journeys through history into accounts of real zombies. Witchcraft, voodoo, necromancy have all been practiced in someway around the world, and Brad Steiger argues that there may be more to it than many think. From relation to vampires and mummies, to the zombie army of Hitler, many out there theories and ideas are presented, making "Real Zombies" a truly fascinating read.
