Book Description

March 15, 1991
Presents hundreds of examples that demonstrate important aspects of figure drawing, such as anatomical points, proportion, attitudes and weight distribution, rendering, and the figure in motion.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA-- An excellent choice to supplement life-drawing instruction in the classroom. Technical information on anatomy, proportion, lighting, weight distribution, and foreshortening is discussed. Beyond this, however, Sheppard shows how to render various figure types and how to capture the figure in motion. The use of a variety of media gives the book an added dimension. Two hundred drawings done in a classical style illustrate the points. They are often accompanied by diagrams to explain the underlying form. The text is informative and written in a way that gives the feeling of having an instructor at hand.

Very similar to the other figure book written by the same author. Buying one or the other will be enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars An artist of rare talent, May 28, 2009
This review is from: Realistic Figure Drawing (Paperback)
Sheppard's work is excellent and his explanations are clear. Much of the same material carries over to his other book on the female figure. One or the other is highly recommended, as are several of his other books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Realistic Figure Drawing (Paperback)
I found this book very helpful in understanding the human figure. It doesn't cover everything that I would have liked however, but it does cover a great deal of both male and female forms. With highly detailed drawings, practical techniques, and easy to understand text. This book makes an excellent addition to your drawing library.
