Editorial Reviews

Narrated by Hoop Dreams star Arthur Agee, Hoop Realities explores what happened during the last decade from where Hoop Dreams left off, following the original basketball hero past his dream and into reality, examining where life has carried him over the decade, and taking a look at where he is today, as the torch gets passed to the next dream seeker. Along the way he mentors and inspires the up-and-coming basketball star, Patrick Beverly, who leads his team, the Marshal Commandos, to the State Finals for the first time since the original Hoop Dreams

I didn't feel that this had as much impact on me as the first one. I was a high school athletes when the first one was made, so I felt a sense of connection to Arthur Agee & William Gates. This go-around, I would have liked to see more of where life took the both of them after their dreams were deferred. I would have, at least, liked to see something on Gates, being as though he is now a minister, though it is good to see that Agee now owns the Hoop Dreams brand. At least one of them was able to profit from this.

Being a grown man, now, I see this from older eyes. I would have hoped for the young ball player, Patrick Beverly, to have learned from the wisdom Agee was trying to pass down to him & the mistakes that held him back. Unfortunately, he didn't finish school, had kids early, and blah blah blah. Let's hope that he makes good on his talent, and if not, that he picks up other life skills to carry him and his family forward.

Boring and pretty poorly produced. I loved the movie and used in to teach a unit in my Literature and Film class. The kids were so interested in the protagonists that I thought it would be fun to spend a little class time on a where are they now look but this didn't hold anyone's attention very long.

Great movie that inspired me and got to see how hard it is. Crazy how he ended up making it to NBA!

I always wondered what happened to the stars of Hoop Dreams. I'm happy to see this young man has done something positive with his life.

Never knew there was a sequel to Hoop Dreams in the 1st place but I always like to see what became of people after such a long time. Was just a little upset that it only had Arthur Agee in it and not the other guy (sorry forgot his name off the top of my head) That's why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. Still interesting movie though.
