Book Description

156032886X 978-1560328865 July 25, 2000 1
This text aims to be a comprehensive, practical, clearly illustrated examination of reality therapy. It includes an historically significant interview with William Glasser, MD, multicultural applications and research based studies. Its goal is to enhance the skills of helpers so that clients may live a more effective life through a total balance of love, health, and happiness. To help teach reality therapy, the author encapsulates the delivery system into the acronym "WDEP". It is expanded to include 22 types of self-evaluation which counsellors and therapists can use to shorten therapy time in the current managed care environment. Each component of the delivery system is illustrated with dialogues so that the reader can see exactly how the system is practical and immediately usable.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The long-awaited book from the master of reality therapy. This easy-to-read volume provides both clinical insight and empirical evidence. It is must reading for therapists in the second century of therapy and for educators at any level.
–Jon Carlson, Psy.D., Ed.D., Governors State University

I like this book and think it is a valuable addition to those who are interested in learning more about the theory and practice of reality therapy....Robert Wubbolding's book does distill the essential theory of reality therapy (and control theory), but extends some of Glasser's work by going into more practical applications.
–Gerald Corey, Ed.D., California State University

Overall, this book makes an effort to move with the times with bold clinical initiatives. This book is useful to anyone who wants to learn the know-how of reality therapy. The seasoned counselor will also find the book to be helpful, since a number of the ideas are new an contemporary.
–Kit S. Ng, Marriage and Family Therapy and Psychological Services at Kean University

Dr. Wubbolding's latest publication, REALITY THERAPY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY, is an eminently readable, highly organized, hands-on type of book. This review is from: Reality Therapy For the 21st Century (Paperback)
Dr. Wubbolding's latest book, Reality Therapy for the 21st Century, is relevant and applicable to anyone, not just those working in the counseling profession. His down-to-earth writing style keeps the immense amount of information, especially his WDEP methodolgy, readable and understanable. For those just entering the counseling profession, Chapter 9 (The Procedures) is an excellent resource for working with clients. Lastly, the research studies are a great reference since they include a variety of topics, including substance abuse, depression, and juvenile offenders.

This review is from: Reality Therapy For the 21st Century (Paperback)
Robert Wubbolding does an excellent job making a different idea and thought process easy to understand in a very practical way. He has a deep understanding of the difference ethnicity, culture, gender, age and different life circumstances make in how we relate with others, with daily life and especially with ourselves. With this understanding he leads to resolutions.
I highly recommend this book to every therapist, especially those trained in Reality Therapy wanting to deepen and broaden their use of Reality Therapy, and to those wanting to know what Reality Therapy is all about.
