Editorial Reviews

It's been a full five years since the last studio album by L.A.'s much beloved, venerable combo The Muffs. The "hard-pop" trio returns in 2004 with "Really Really Happy"; the band's first album for Five Foot Two & its sharpest, most focused & dynamic set of tunage yet! The 13-year-old group (Kim Shattuck- vocals, guitar, songs; Ronnie Barnett- bass; Roy McDonald- drums) recorded "Really Really Happy" at an easy pace. No hard deadlines, no clock-watching, no stress & it shows. The album is a relaxed, raucous, sonically rich affair stacked with 17(!) larger-than-life songs; some of the best of the band's ballyhooed career. A career that has spanned over a decade, with the release of four studio albums bursting at the seams with a slew of now classic songs that have secured them a loyal underground following.

As usual The Muffs come through again with "Really Really Happy". "A Little Luxury" is another in a long line of classic sounding Muffs songs from the minute you hear it, as well as "Everybody Loves You", "Freak Out" and " I'm Here I'm Not". And some interesting new styles on "My Lucky Day" with keyboards and some very cool backing vocals."Slow" really shows Kim's vocal diversity on this record. You go girl.

If this is pop punk then let's have more. It beats Neo-punk by a mile.True punk was good for two years; pop punk that's this good will last for a decades. The Muffs have tapped in to a pretty simple rock music truth: rock works well when it's simple, loud, fast, witty and fun. And here you get it all. Really, what would you rather listen to The Muffs or Anti-Flag? The Muffs or Genesis? Buy this cd and you'll know the answer is really a no-brainer.

The Muffs have always produced killer albums and this one is no exception. In fact, this may be their piece du resistance! After a five year absence, Kim, Ronnie and Roy are back with what is not only their best album ever, but also one of the best albums of the year! You need to buy this!

Catchy toe tapping pop punk that will put a smile on your face. Every tune is catchy and is perfect to pop in the car with the top down on a spring day cruising down a country road with your sweetie and cranking it up. The drummer is an awesome player. The bass player is solid. I love Ms. Shattuck,s voice. It has drunken female pirate quality to it. Just when she starts to sing real pretty -boom -, in your face with a drunken growl. I love it. Betty Boop meets Blackbeard meets Joey Ramone.
