Really Mysterious Pennsylvania-UFOs, Bigfoot and Other Weird Encounters-Casebook One
By Stan Gordon
ISBN 978-0-9666108-2-6

"Remember, you only an hour away from one of the most prominent researchers in Pennsylvania" - those were the words that a friend told me when I moved to Pittsburgh so many years ago. The name "Stan Gordon" was a constant in the UFO press of the 1970s and the research of his UFO/paranormal groups was covered everything from saucer sightings to some of the most spellbinding accounts of encounters with Bigfoot and other beings. All this, including the legendary "Kecksburg Crash" of 1965, made the great state of Pennsylvania a treasure-trove of forbidden lore.

Decades later, I would have of being among the first to set eyes on Really Mysterious Pennsylvania - the book that everyone had expected Stan to write for so long, unlocking the contents of his paranormal archives. And it does not disappoint!

In recent years, research into the "far out and far away" has taken a decidedly Western leaning, with researchers concentrated in the Southwest and California, hovering around Roswell. This new book is a reminder that we have mysteries - and then some - on this end of the lower 48.

In the 18th century, when William Penn became the owner of the kingdom-sized estate known as Pennsylvania, little did he realize that he had acquired a land of extraordinary paranormal activity, ranging from winged monsters in its forests, hairy bipeds in its lofty ridges, to unexplained lights in the sky. Really Mysterious Pennsylvania takes the reader through ten chapters devoted to UFO sightings of all descriptions - lights in the sky, cases involving ground traces and high-strangeness events, even truly dangerous encounters with the unknown. Act II of the book, so to speak, concerns the "Eastern Bigfoot" and its interaction with bewildered humans: of particular interest here is "Chapter 14 - Government Intervention" which describes the active role that the FBI has taken in some cases. The book's final section is a delight to the seekers of high-strangeness cases, involving Thunderbirds, mysterious ice falls, and "The Mysterious Fowl Eater"

The best feature of Really Mysterious Pennsylvania is that it promises to be the first in a series of books on our state's wonders and enigmas - and what better tour guide than Stan Gordon?

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!, June 14, 2010
This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
This is one of those books that you simply cannot put down once you start reading....finished it in one evening and was hungry for for. Fortunately for us Stan Gordon's other book "Silent Invasion" is due to be released soon. When it comes to odd happenings in Pennsylvania Stan Gordon is THE AUTHORITY on such matters and has been actively researching and investigating these claims most of his life. This book hit me just right....highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for Paranormal enthusiasts, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
Growing up in Pennsylvania and reading about these reports in the newspaper, and hearing of these reports directly from Stan this book brings back memories. It is a fascinating tale of the strange and mccabe going on in Pennsylvania. With Stans 51 years of experience and these reports, this book is one you have to have. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down. At an early age, Stan became a mentor for me and I've followed his work for 30 years and this book is a great summary of some of the reports over the decades that Stan has recieved and investigated. If you want to learn about what is really going on in Pennsylvania, buy this book! You wont be dissapointed!

Stan Gordon has done a nice job of collecting some great reports about UFOs and mysterious creatures in Pennsylvania, but this would have been a better book if he had shared some of his insights and opinions. He is an excellent researcher and definitely knows his material, and I would have liked to have heard his thoughts and theories on what the true nature of this phenomena is. Are UFOs from outer space, or secret Air Force technology, or something else? I would have liked to know what Mr. Gordon thinks.
Still, the stories are great, and if you're into the paranormal this book would be a good addition to your collection. The Kecksburg incident material alone is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Mysterious Pennsylvania by Stan Gordon, September 24, 2010
This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
An intriguing compilation of reports from legendary veteran paranormal researcher Stan Gordon. The long awaited authorship with another volume well underway from one of the nation's most experienced and dependable field researchers and Pennsylvania's prime paranormal investigator, Gordon details some of his more perplexing cases of UFO appearances, phantom black panthers and sasquatch haunts as well as a sampling of other lesser-known Fortean phenomena like mass sightings of mysterious beams of light of unknown origin, thunderbirds and ice-falls.

A pleasant mix of the ultra-strange for the paranormal student and a good introduction into the paranormal reality for those new to the field. Culled from the wealth of Gordon's 50+ years of field investigation, the cases presented offer an outline of the behavior, habitual locations and characteristics so anatomical of phenomena as well as the regions where these phantasma tend to appear and even cross paths with appearances within the same vicinities. Gordon's outstanding reputation for integrity and factual reporting is reflected here in his first book and presented without all of the hype and drama nor the repetition of the same old overstated cases so typical for most books of the genre.

Whether you are a curious onlooker peering into phenomena for the first time, a seasoned researcher collecting localized reporting for regional/statistical studies, a researcher in PA focused on collecting local paranormal history or simply a hobbyist seeking something stimulating and entertaining, Really Mysterious Pennsylvania is a must-have for your collection or archive of data. Peppered throughout with photos, illustrations, tips and factoids, Stan Gordon's Really Mysterious Pennsylvania is a healthy and interesting romp through Midwestern phenomena Americana!

5.0 out of 5 stars PA Mysterious, January 8, 2012

This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
Until I read this book, I had no idea that Pennsylvania experienced so many mysterious events. I knew of some of them, such as Kecksburg and thunderbirds, but I somehow missed the 1973-74 spate of occurrences, especially in western PA where I was born and raised. Stan Gordon succeeds in chronicling these events in a well-written, well-researched and invigorating book. Thus, he performs an invaluable service to PA. The book can also be unnerving. I was disturbed to discover the numerous Bigfoot sightings so close to my childhood home. Mr. Gordon provides much detail for each event, but he never makes them boring. He is also unbiased--if he can't verify something, he says so. If you need more proof of his credibility, note that police units all over PA refer witnesses to him when they report sightings to the police. I was impressed! Until now, I've been leery of believing outright in UFO's, Bigfoots, Thunderbirds, and even black panthers in PA, but the sheer volume of eyewitness accounts forces me to acknowledge that all of these people couldn't be liars or crazy. If you decide to buy this book, do yourself a favor and also buy his other new book, "Silent Invasion-The Pennsylvania UFO-Bigfoot Casebook". It is just as fascinating as this one.
One final note. Mr Gordon is--refreshingly--an excellent writer. Cherish this since there are probably more people who have witnessed Bigfoot than can write the English language so competently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, September 29, 2010
This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
Having had the opportunity to review this book before publication, I can only say how amazed I was at all the great accounts that Stan has put together. He's done his homework, and this book really is an eye-opener for anyone who wonders if "we're not alone." Skeptics will always line up to dispute this or that, but a book like this at the very least should make us give pause to consider the reality of the extraordinary without dismissing it as some childish fantasy. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stan Gordon's Pa UFO & Other Weird Encounters, August 19, 2010

This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
Interesting well written review of unusual happenings in Pa. For those looking for pretty solid evidence take a look at the cell phone image of a classic bell shaped UFO. Let's hope there is more to come with Stan's careful investigations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Reading, July 14, 2010

This review is from: Really Mysterious Pennsylvania: UFOs, Bigfoot & Other Weird Encounters Casebook One (Paperback)
The reading is entertaining, and will give you the chills reading it before bed. The book is really a collection of reports, so one can just read anyone of them and get the same thing out of it. There's no plot, just reporting. I gave it 3 stars because it is OK, but after reading a few reports one may find the style monotonous. What holds the interest in the book is more the content of the reports themselves, so some are good, others not as interesting.
