The Real Deal at Bedtime,
By
This review is from: I'm Really Not Tired (Hardcover)
This is a perfect bedtime book. Clever rhymes tell the story of Samuel who studies the main problem of bedtime, and the clever illustrations add to the story line. Like Samuel, I used to suspect that while I was tucked into my bed, the grownups were busy having all sorts of fun. Ms. Sunshine's book explores that theme to show kids what they are really missing. It's an imaginative and fun book, and shows that investigation can be a great adventure. My 8-yr-old and 5-yr-old kids loved it: big sister wants to read it to little sister! Perfect for curious kids, and early readers, and the bit of repeating rhymes are great for little kids who are into repetition (again, again!).

The perfect bedtime story!,

Finally! A book about a kid like mine! My son and daughter were always convinced they were missing out on fun after bedtime. My son laughed out loud seeing himself in the book. "I'm Really Not Tired!" is an adorable bedtime book. It's funny, and beautifully illustrated with wonderful detail. And the little boy has such a wild imagination! Your kids will love this book.

The title of the book is what grabs you first and then the size is perfect for little ones to view as you read the amazing rhyming story that all can relate to and the illustrations are fabulous too. So many people have commented on "That is what my kids say all the time". Just adorable for an anytime gift. Perfect for a child's library!

We love this book. The rhymes are clever and the illustrations are fun and engaging. The first few times we read it, my son insisted on having his flashlight alongside, just like Sam. When I volunteered to read a story to his Kindergarten class, we picked this book. When I was done, the kids asked me to read it again - and the teacher said they never did that before so the book must be good! So we bought another copy to gift to her classroom.

This story is our new bedtime favorite. My 7-year old twins love reading it to me -- the rhymes are fun and imaginative, and the illustrations are delightful. All kids wonder what their parents are up to while they are sleeping -- this book provides the perfect, fun answer. An instant classic.

This is my sons new favorite book! He is 7 with many special needs including visual impairment so words are his world. This story made him laugh and squeal! The creaking of the stairs, the yawns, the snores. He really enjoyed it almost as much as I did.

I'm Really Excited!,
This review is from: I'm Really Not Tired (Hardcover)
By far my favorite picture book this year to date, I'm Really Not Tired addresses the age-old question asked by kids who hate bedtime...does all the fun stuff happen while I'm sleeping?
Do Sam's parents eat ice cream and cake? Perhaps there's a circus in the kitchen and a zoo in the guest bedroom! So, Sam and his best pal Petey Bear put their nighttime plan into action and go on a truth-seeking mission. In addition to containing a brilliant story, playing on an honest premise that kids will find familiar, the text holds rhythmic beats throughout. And the artwork! Oh, the delicious artwork! It's perfectly married to the author's story and even expands on it to take this picture book to new heights. The use of color and Impressionist-like brushstrokes are astounding, and the foreground and background play important roles in every illustration, making every page count. This book is sure to be a hit with the preschool crowd! Off to turn another page....

What really goes on when you've got to go to sleep?,

This review is from: I'm Really Not Tired (Hardcover)
Samuel McKay isn't quite ready for bed yet. As his dad tucks him into bed he decides, along with his adorable Teddy, Petey Bear, to embark upon a fanciful adventure attempting to figure out just exactly what goes on when he has to go to sleep. But will Samuel discover that there are wild parties filled with animals going on downstairs, or will it be a discovery that disappoints him?
I'm Really Not Tired, is a remarkable book for little readers, especially for those who have a hard time getting to sleep, like I did when I was young, laying awake straining my ears to hear exactly what is going on downstairs where the grownups are. Filled with rhyming verse that flows well and does not seem to be forced, the story takes the young reader on a cute and humorous journey, while the illustrations enhance the plot and add to the overall sweet appeal to this book. |
