A good book, despite its sensationalistic tone, December 28, 2000
This review is from: The Really Sinister Savage Shark (Really Horrible Guides) (Hardcover)
I must admit that I was a bit offended by the title of Barbara Taylor's book "The Really Sinister Savage Shark and Other Creatures of the Deep." After all, the sharks and other animals depicted in the book are simply trying to survive, just like human beings. But if you can get past the book's sensationalistic tone, you will find many excellent photographs and interesting facts. The book briefly discusses several species of shark (great white, leopard, thresher, etc.), as well as many other potentially dangerous marine animals: octopi, jellyfish, rays, walruses, sea snakes, and more.
Although the author does point out that more people die from bee stings than from shark attacks, the book is still far from charitable to these unfairly maligned creatures. So enjoy "The Really Sinister Savage Shark" with your child, but be prepared to give the shark's side of the story!
