Really useful baby stuff that got us through Maya's first year

A Listmania! list by sveranha "sveranha" (Austin, TX)
The list author says: "WOW! Maya is already 19 months old!!! In a month she will be in preschool 5 days a week! YAY FOR ME!

I decided to compile this list because I am in the process of putting away all Maya's baby "stuff" & in the process, sadly, giving away a bunch of things that were such a waste & not worth keeping for baby#2.

When I think back to Maya's first year there are SO many things I could have done differently/better. The foremost is that I should have taken better care of myself. Instead of a baby registry, I should have asked for gift certificates for massages & a maid service as shower gifts. It is hard to justify expenditure for things like that when you're a new mom, so I think the best thing is to allow your loved ones to treat you to them.

Back to baby "stuff", it's hard to be overwhelmed by it all, and easy to have so much of it that your house shows no signs of an adult living in it. But at the end of the day, there are some baby items that will make your life easier & here is a list of things that helped me survive my first year of motherhood."

The list author says:
"Maya is now 26 months old and completely potty trained!  I haven't viewed this list in months and am amazed to see it has almost a thousand views.  Here's one product I HAVE to add to my list - they are *the* best wipes out there and I wish I had found them sooner.  Check diapers.com for the best price and feel free to use my referral code MAYA2007 to get $10 off your first order."

Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle Swing
2.  Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle Swing by Fisher-Price
The list author says:
"I'm not specifically recommending this swing, although it's the one we have - the point is to make sure that you get one like this that plugs into the wall as opposed to running on batteries."

The First Years Breastflow Starter Set
3.  The First Years Breastflow Starter Set by Learning Curve
The list author says:
"These are awesome because they mimic the real thing!  The only bottle a lactation consultant will tell you is OK to let baby have.  Don't forget that if you're using bottles, you also need to buy a bottle brush & it is useful to have a drying rack, both ours are by Munchkin."

Evenflo Farmyard Mega ExerSaucer
6.  Evenflo Farmyard Mega ExerSaucer by Evenflo
The list author says:
"The ExerSaucer we had was a hand-me-down (thanks, Nur!) & no longer available, so I'm just choosing the cheapest one here to add to my list.  Maya had a rainforest jumperoo that she didn't care for very much, but the ExerSaucer was a life saver.

NB: You can only put a baby in an ExerSaucer once s/he is supporting her/his head exceptionally well."

9.  Gerber Good Start Gentle PLUS, Ready to Feed, 8.45-Ounce Cans in 6-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) by Good Start
The list author says:
"If you plan to breast feed I applaud you, but if, like us, you need to supplement  & you don't want to have to rush out of the house in the middle of the night, have ready-to-use liquid formula handy.  If you don't use it, you can give it away.

Just FYI: The World Health Organization recommends that babies below the age of 2 months only be fed ready-to-use liquid formula."

"I've selected a random Pack 'n Play here because I don't see the Rainforest one we have (thanks Kristen & Veronica for the awesome gift!).  They can get pretty pricey, but you can get a really good one with a bassinet and changing station for around $100.  We found it especially useful to have downstairs & Maya would hang out in it while I fixed dinner."

The list author says:
"Could I have lived without this item?  Probably.  Are there better ones out there?  I'm sure there are.  But I have used my diaper champ every single day for the past 19 months & it has held a week's worth of pee diapers at a time without giving out any pee smell.  The reason I initially chose it was that you can use regular trash bags in it.  Thanks, Harishini for the gift!"
