2.0 out of 5 stars Unblessed Review
I read the ratings and the reviews for this book, and based on them I thought I was getting a much better story than what this was. The characters were cardboard and stubborn to the point of stupidity. They did not simply communicate to resolve problems. There was a lot of contrivance with the plot. 5.0 out of 5 stars This book has it all... a must read!, June 10, 2009
Once more into the Realm Immortal. This time with the King of the Unblessed and his goblins, trolls, dark fairies and berserkers.

King Merrick was once the king of the Blessed but circumstances have forced him to switch realms and now his brother Ean rules the Blessed. Merrick is fascinated by the mortal Lady Julianna of Bellemare and when he hears her wish for adventure he tricks her into coming to the immortal world. He does not care it is the night before her wedding, in fact he swears the ceremony will not take place.

Julianna tries to find the Black Palace to plead with the King of the Unblessed. She does not realize the king is Merrick. Her brothers are horrified by her disappearance and follow her into the immortal realm. They bring with them the sad news that her betrothed has been murdered.

Julianna is reunited with her brothers and they take refuge with the Faeries. Queen Tanya of the Faeries sends the lady of Bellemare to Merrick and Julianna must choose the path for her future. Her growing attraction for him is darkened by her conviction that he murdered her future husband.

In the background King Lucien of the Damned is twisting events to get his own way, while King Ean is trying to understand why his brother seems intent on going to war with him.

I have to admit I read the three books of Realm Immortal the wrong way round. King of the Unblessed is the first one in the series although I've read it last. This did not spoil the story for me at all. Ms Pillow has built a fantastic world and peopled it with characters from childhood stories but put an adult twist on them.

What are the Unblessed? The Blessed are obviously the excruciatingly good, while the Damned are the rotten to the core. The Unblessed are those creatures who create the necessary evil you must have to appreciate the good.

Merrick still reminds me of David Bowie in Labyrinth. It's obvious from the beginning that he truly loves Julianna but will not tell her what she wants to hear. The Black Palace sheds its shadow over everything, causing misunderstandings which threaten to destroy the balance of power.

This book has it all. Betrayal, lust, love, evil, goodness and adventure. Once again Ms Pillow has written a novel that must be read. I hope she sees her way to writing more of this series. Although all the books are complete stories I could see the possibility for at least two more novels to be written about the Realm Immortal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, February 2, 2009

This is my first book by Michelle Pillow. I loved it. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, they were introduced and developed in a manner enticing you to turn the page eagerly. My heart went out to the main characters, Juliana and Merrick and the conflicts between them.

The action and suspense scenes blended into the romance, not overtaking the love story but balancing it out perfectly.

After reading this book I eagerly picked up the next two in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hot paranormal from Ms. Pillow!!, April 29, 2010
This review is from: Realm Immortal: King of the Unblessed (Kindle Edition)
Lady Juliana of Bellemare longs for adventure. She has been betrothed to her neighbour and fears she must spend the rest of her live near her family. She longs for and wishes for other realms, other places. She should be careful for what she wishes. Merrick, the dark elfin king of Valdis has watched her for a long time. Unable to go to her, he entices her to his realm. Her fiancé is murdered, the children of Bellemare are kidnapped, and Merrick gives her a choice, come to him until he tires of her or die. Neither expect the passion and love that grows between them, and with all the intrigue and meddling from King Lucien of the Damned it looks like Merrick may lose his kingdom and the woman he has come to love.

This reviewer just loves a hot fantasy, and Ms Pillow has penned such a rich world with multi-dimensional characters that leap off the pages. The plot held this reviewer spellbound and kept her reading right until the end. This reviewer would class this story more of a dark, erotic fantasy. Ms Pillow's hero is more of a bad guy, and to watch him fall in love was a joy to see. To see the changes he goes through, coming from the dark and more into the light was very well done. The love scenes were hot and passionate, the dialogue great, the secondary characters worthy of their own books. This reviewer is looking forward to reading more of this new world Ms Pillow has conjured up for her fans...and her fans will love it for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars King Of The Unblessed Review, April 28, 2010
From The First Sentence Of This Book I Was Hooked. This Book Was Amazing From The Characters Right Down To The Immortal Realm Michelle M. Pillow Has Created. I Thought These Characters Were Believable And I Felt There Angst. Michelle Is A Brillant Story Teller And This Book Only Exemplifies This. If You Love Faeries, Other Worldly Creatures, Great Characters, And An Amazing Story This Book Is For You.

I read the ratings and the reviews for this book, and based on them I thought I was getting a much better story than what this was. The characters were cardboard and stubborn to the point of stupidity. They did not simply communicate to resolve problems. There was a lot of contrivance with the plot. The story description on the back of the book and in the review did not match up with the storyline. No children were kidnapped, the heroine was TRICKED into believing that. I ordered all three books, but only read the first and last. They won't be going on my keeper shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - the Blessed and the Cursed - a dark fantasy romance with Elves, Fae, Sprites and Demons, January 25, 2008
On the eve of the wedding that she does not desire, the dreamy Juliana offers a fanciful wish in the dark -- her soul in trade for an escape from her fate with a Knight to carry her off to an adventure in a far off land where dreams of castles and dragons are real. Little did she realize that her wish would be heard and granted, but the price though not her soul, would be her total willing submission to her dark savior, Merrick elven king of the Unblessed. Merrick has long watched Juliana from afar, completely obsessed with her. Juliana's blessedness calls to him like a beacon in the darkness his empty life has become since he was cursed to rule the Kingdom of the Unblessed, a realm that is based neither on the good of the Blessed Kingdom or the evil of the Damned, but a dark kingdom of mischief, tricks and neccessary evil where friendship and kindness have no home.

Juliana stirs complicated feelings in Merrick. He wants to frighten her away to be free of the compulsion he feels, but he also wants to possess her fully, to take and bend her to his will, but even more he wants her willing surrender. Juliana's feeling are equally mixed. Merrick ensorcels her, she can't think but for the overwhelming desire she feels for him. She should hate him, he's tricked her to his side, he's cruel, but she feels his hidden pain and loneliness and is drawn to him in spite of fear. But plots are in place and Juliana and Merrick are but pawns to be sacrificed in a hidden game unless she can learn to look beyond what she sees with her eyes and hear beyond the words that are spoken.

Realm Immortal: King of the Unblessed is told in a captivating almost lyrical style. I really enjoyed the cadence, texture and flow of the words as well as the images and emotions that author Michelle Pillow evoked. The conflicted emotions of the characters along with the machinations of the evil Lucien King of the Damned made for an interesting read with action beyond the sensual romance of the leads. I really liked this book so 5 stars from me and I am off to read the next book in the series Faery Queen: Realm Immortal Book Two (Realm Immortal) which bring Juliana's brother Hugh back to the Realm to face Tania the Faery Queen who drove Hugh crazy with annoyance and desire.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, lets get real now...., December 17, 2006
Looking at the reviews i was really surprised because in no way did this book deserve 5 stars. I mean, it was a great read and i absoulutely LOVED the hero, Merrick and the cute troublesome little characters but this book was filled with annoying problems. I would recomend this book but its not on the top of my list.
