merciless death, realm of terror,
This review is from: Realm of Terror [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Great record. Merciless Death are not just another wanna be thrash metal poser band, ripping off greater bands like Exodus and Municipal Waste. These dudes bring a different from of energy and influence to the table then most who call themselves "thrash metal". Think more Bathory and Celtic Frost. Leave the silliness and catchy hooks for the pop bands. Pour on the speed and the satanism, lots of it! If you like your thrash metal, cruel, fast and hateful then enter the pentagram, "DEATH WARRIORS" is your new jam. If not run for your pitiful little life.

Good solid thrash metal,

This disc is good solid thrash metal. Not a lot of range in the guitar playing, but lots of non-melodic but cool, simple riffs, fast and heavy downstrokes, not much noodling. The guitar solos are reminicent of Possessed or Kreator in the early days -- that is to say, not at all melodic, but pretty fast. The overall sound of this band is very tight and professional -- the drums snap, I love the heavy distortion, the vox are pretty standard-issue non-singing/rasp yells. Having grown up in the 80s listening to the orignal thrash bands to which Merciless Death pay homage, I find something lacking in the music. I guess it's not really fair to the band, because they can't compete with this, but the missing element seems to be nostalgia. I can listen to those old records, and the music evokes great memories of the days of old. I bought this album because I'm a Dark Angel fan, and also because I liked Hatchet's neo-thrash album "Awaiting Evil", which I enjoyed slightly better, but which also lacks the same quality you just can't build into the tunes. Merciless Death is a good band. Don't get me wrong. They do everything right for this kind of music, for their kind of special bent on it. I like it, but without that element of nostalgia for me, it became uninteresting after a few listens, simply because they haven't yet brought anything new to the table. I think they have the potential to evolve into a great band, and I hope they'll keep going. I would buy another album from them, just to see how they'd progressed. In summary, good band, fast, thrashy riffs, short songs, and good solid metal (with a killer cover). I'd highly recommend this band for a new generation of folks just discovering thrash metal.

on this album, Merciless Death is trying to conjure the spirit of "Seasons In the Abyss" by Slayer, and mixing in a little Destruction, Sepultura, and Kreator. when you put this on, you would think it was the 1980's all over again. if you like thrash, look no further than this album. if you like Forbidden, Testament, Exodus, Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Overkill, Bonded By Blood, Gama Bomb, old Sepultura, old Metallica, Revocation, and Negligence, get this album. in the time it took me to write this review, 5 songs went by. I wonder if there are more Heavy Artillery records on here, because this is awesome.

Heavy Metal has been an undying genre for four decades and with the 80's there were some traces that live in our hearts that will never die but we've been needing something fresh and new that bring the best sound of that decade influenced by bands like Sepultura,Kreator,Slayer among others and is about the great metal band with their second album Realm of Terror. This is(with no doubt)one of the best metal albums during the last decade.
