Essential for geography majors and general readers alike,

This review is from: Realms, Regions and Concepts, 13th Edition (Hardcover)
Used this in a regional geography course in college with a visiting professor from Moscow State University who highly respected the authors, de Blij and Muller. Being a physical geography/GIS person, I wasn't sure what to expect, but soon came to love the 'regional' approach to geography. For those who don't know, 'Regional Geography' is a subdiscipline of geography that emphasizes holistic description and analysis to understand the human and environmental pieces that make up a place. The material is very relevant to current events, such as the Georgia/Russia conflict. You'll learn about the South Caspian oil fields, the Baku pipeline, and the cultural 'minorities' of Russia and the former Soviet Union that make up this fascinating region. You'll learn about past Russian political involvement in the region and the effect of Russian colonists. It's all in there! And the same goes for the entire rest of the globe -- this is the magic of Regional Geography. de Blij's approach is to attempt to define "Realms" of the world (kind of "Super-Regions" which are somehow cohesive) and organizes the book around these theorized Realms. Whether or not you agree with the definitions of realms, the technique does help with memorization, as Regional Geography has a LOT of places, dates, and names to be memorized. I believe this book has great potential to turn people onto the highly underrated discipline of regional geography and sprout more academic and armchair geographers!

This book was the required text for my Introduction to Geography class at Hampton University. Hardback and brand-new, it was the same text sold in the bookstore for about half the price. Amazon has never failed me yet!
Got a lot of great pictures and cultural notes -- though I would not recommend this text for leisure reading, it does make textbook reading a little more leisurely!

Best Textbook I've Ever Used,

When it comes to textbooks, they are normally boring and always overpriced! When I purchased "Realms, Regions and Concepts" for my college geography class, I was pleasantly surprised. This book is easy to read and the maps and illustrations are both relevant and interesting. I thorougly enjoyed using this textbook and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the world's geo-political make-up. Even though my class is long over, I know that I will crack this book open again from time to time, just for reading pleasure. The accompanying internet study resources are also top-notch.

Not sure if I am reviewing the seller and the item...or just the item. But the seller was awesome! Book came within 3 days, and it was in fantastic condition.
The book itself is horrible. Its my text book for class. I have not read many geography books, but this is like reading "most pointless things about Geography" prepare for 50 page chapters and turning back pages to look at figures and maps noted on different pages. There are definitely some interesting thoughts in this book, none-the-less it is by far the worst thing I have ever read. Jake

My World Regional Geography class required the 14th edition of this book but my instructor said any other edition would be fine, too. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to order this book at different websites, I finally got this one in just two days. I browsed through it and there are plenty of good pictures and maps. The maps are pretty important in my Geography class. Very happy!

I go to Mercer County Community College and I needed this book for my GEO 102 or Eastern geography. I bought this book in Used condition for roughly 13.90. I was skeptical about if it included everything I needed because I had a problem one time about getting a textbook without the online registration. The book was shipped and I got it a few days after I ordered it. It was a quick delivery. The book was in great condition it was pretty much new condition. I'm glad I bought it on Amazon.com because the bookstore at my college wanted this book new for 171.75 and used for 129.00. I'm glad I got it from Amazon.com.

Kindle editions not suitable for college,

With no provision for accessing the publisher student resources website, and the lack of pagination (neccessary to cross reference with the study guide I had to purchase to have the maps I could not access- see above); I found using the Kindle edition to have been a waste of money. As a student on financial aid, I need to save every penney that I can. Ultimately, I would have been better off with a physical copy. I do recommend the Kindle app for Laptop (can't afford the actual); it is a great reader, and I'm certain the actual device is amazing.
