welcome to buttsville,
By
This review is from: Rear Ends: Found Photos (Hardcover)
If you're looking for a tasteful book about people's posteriors then you've found it here. This hardcover tome has over one hundred photographs culled from thrift stores depicting average people's bottoms throughout the 20th century. If you're an aficionado of found objects or just a fan of butts then this book's for you.

Pointless and Boring,

This review is from: Rear Ends: Found Photos (Hardcover)
In case you can't tell from the product description, this book is a collection of photographs the author compiled from photo albums he found at antique stores or garage sales or where ever
They're not funny, they're not sexy, they're not in the least bit interesting. Its just dozens of photos of people's (or in some cases animal's or statue's) rear ends. There's a one-page introduction at the first that does nothing to enlighten you as to why these photos were chosen, or what they have in common, other than that they are all obviously pictures of rear ends. Other than that there are no words in the book, just picture after picture, most of them of very old or very fat people's butts From the cover I expected it to be a sort of tame collection of vaguely sexy photographs rescued from the trashbin, or something like that. At the very least, i expected the back grounds or compositions to be interesting. Its just randomly selected pictures of people's butts though. Most of the photos are very old, from the 30's and 40's. I'm not sure how that makes them more or less worthy of publication, but apparently it figures in somehow. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. I wish I had

A well-culled and entertaining collection.,
By Sabrosa "Bittersweet" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

A very entertaining collection of photos that would be a perfect off-beat gift for anyone who enjoys found art - especially of real people by real people. The lay-out is clean, not cluttered and allows the well chosen snapshots speak for themselves. Plus half the fun is bringing your own story to each of these images. For anyone who appreciates found art, this one tells a great tale with a very satisfying ending.

Bottom end, tops,
This review is from: Rear Ends: Found Photos (Hardcover)
The rear end of human anatomy always fascinates us, particularly in these found photos. The fact that they come from non commercial photographers provides more than mere sociological appeal. They charm us and remind us of former times and places, and the innocent sensibilities that surrounded them. Those who like this book will find a companion book, "Couples," equally appealing.

OK, so I liked the cover, showing what appears to be a pretty girl in a swimsuit bending over the side of a boat, showing off her nice derriere! I could certainly enjoy a book with more photos of that nature, right?
But that's not what this book is all about. No, very few of the rear ends photographed for this book are of scantily-clad young female hotties, but I suppose if they'd put a child, a middle-aged-guy, or an unattractive person's fully-clothed butt on the cover nobody would be particularly interested. Oh well, we live and we learn.

I agree completely with J. Hornbuckle's review. I expected a collection of photos that were mildly sexy (even if unintentionally) and mildly funny (even if unintentionally). That's how I would describe the photo on the cover, and I expected the photos inside to be of similar style. In fact, there is no consistent style. The photos are inconsistent in their quality, subject matter, and interest. The book doesn't feel edited, but rather like someone went around to some garage sales and just stuck in whatever photos were found. Beware: these items are not funny just for being published. Wish I had skipped this one and used the money to buy something I would like.

Cash,
This review is from: Rear Ends: Found Photos (Hardcover)
Hmmm...the cover of this book really makes it seems like this is a treasure of found photos from the '50's, 60's & beyond (ala Found Magazine)...but in fact this book has only BLACK & WHITE photos from the turn of the century. So why the cute cover??? Seriously? The cover shot is the cutest (and best) photo in the book. If you're looking for real fun gems of content, just buy yourself an edition of Found Magazine (NOT THE SAME PUBLISHER AS THIS) and save yourself the trouble. Great concept. Little content. Too bad. Buyer Beware.

Tame = lame,

I got this, and the butt book by Keyser Soze. This one was shockingly tame, and the one by Keyser was shockingly graphic. This one had larger pics, but I will take shockingly graphic any day over tame.

For those of you who want something racy or more "adult"...grow up or go buy yourself a copy of Maxim. This book is not for you! This is one of the best coffee table books I can imagine. Butts are one of the most comical parts of the human body, yet totally endearing at the same time. The found photos in this book, spanning the 20th century, are full of humor and charm. You can't help but smile ear to ear the entire time you browse this book. I dare anyone to see this book on a coffee table and not be tempted to flip through it. I am so excited to own this book and would pay twice what it costs to have it. I will also be giving it as a gift to others who would delight in a collection of charming shots of vintage posteriors. Love it!

I love this book, and bought several as gifts without knowing they would be marked with ugly black dots on the page edge as "REMAINDERS." Now you know.
