3.0 out of 5 stars What's The Reason for this album?
Beanie Sigel's first album The Truth was just that. Minus two songs it was Beanie's best effort at the time(The B-Coming being the best now). This album falls short for a couple of reasons. 1. The production was dry. 2. Beanie sounds pretty uninspired on here(with a few exceptions) 3. weak guest appearances(with the exception of Jay-z and Scarface). The Good: Nothing...

3.0 out of 5 stars What's The Reason for this album?, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Reason (Audio CD)
Beanie Sigel's first album The Truth was just that. Minus two songs it was Beanie's best effort at the time(The B-Coming being the best now). This album falls short for a couple of reasons. 1. The production was dry. 2. Beanie sounds pretty uninspired on here(with a few exceptions) 3. weak guest appearances(with the exception of Jay-z and Scarface). The Good: Nothing Like It was a good way to start off the album. Mom Praying with Scarface is a touching tribute to their mothers and I must admit that Scarface and Beanie are a kick a** combo. Still Got Love For You which features Jay-z is their explanation for Where Have You Been as Rell gives a pretty decent chorus for the song and What Your Life Like 2 is an awesome finish for the album because Beanie always excells when he makes his deep cuts. Honorable Mention: So What You Saying featuring Memphis Bleek. The Bad: I never liked his first single Beanie(Mack B****) and why would he pick such a weak single to be the first is very questionable to say the least. Get Down, I Dont Do Much, For My N*****(feat a wasted effort by Daz) and Think Its A Game(feat Jay-z, Freeway and Lil Chris) are all boring tracks that will work wonders for the most chronic insomniacs.
The Ugly: Tales Of A Hustler is butt and I dont know why the Roc signs wack signees like Sparks when songs like this prove that he is absolutely useless on the mic. Gangsta Gangsta(feat Kurupt) is Beanie's big offence and lazy rhymes like /enough with that cocky stuff/dont get smacked like a hockey puck/(come on Beans I know you can do better than that) make you wonder if he even tried to put effort into that song at all. Then again that's not his biggest offence. Watch Your B****** is! Man's World is another dull track with a poorly used James Brown(RIP) sample in the background as Beanie just spits with no effort. Bottom Line: The Reason is Beanie Sigel's worst album and how anybody can feel joints like Watch Your B******, I Dont Do Much and For My N***** is beyond me. Beanie apologized for this album before his third release came out and I heard this album way before that interview so I agree with him 100%. This album was not the best he can do but he shouldnt apologize because he made up for it with The B-Coming so all is forgiven. Just dont do it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Reason - why out fell off this one, May 23, 2006
This review is from: Reason (Audio CD)
Not to sound too critical, but this one was rather dissapointing, compared to his first release, "The Truth", now he has given us a reason why this LP is not as equally impressive as his previous work. Although it didn't really dissapoint overall, there is enough material to keep you going, for instance the introspective ("Nothing Like It") or the emotion-filled ("Mom's Praying") and ("I Still Got Love For You"), but that's not enough to save the whole album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sigel was the name that they gave him-CLASSIC!, January 9, 2005
This review is from: Reason (Audio CD)
1)Nothing Like It:One of the best intro's i've ever heard with a great soul sample by Kanye West. Production-10/10, lyrics 9.5/10.
2)Beanie(Mack B****):Awesome beat produced by no other than my man Just Blaze, a club anthem and great flow by Sigel. Production 15/10, lyrics 8.5/10.
3)So What You Saying(feat.Memphis Bleek):Another great beat produced by Just Blaze a re-make of EPMD's "So What U Sayin'"
Production 9.5/10, lyrics 9.5/10.
4)Get Down:Damn I think this is the best 4 tracks ever presented in order by any album ever.Again produced by Just Blaze.
Production 10/10, lyrics 10/10.
5)I Dont Do Much:A kick back beat produced by Rick Rock.Nuthin special, but nice. Production 8/10, lyrics 8/10.
6)For My Ni****(feat.Daz):Great flow by Beanie, again produced by Rick Rock. Production 8.5/10, lyrics 9/10.
7)Watch Your B******):The worst song on the album but Sigel does his best to go with it, Produced By 88-Keys. Production 7/10, Lyirics 7.5/10.
8)Think It's A Game(feat.Jay-Z,Freeway & Young Chris):This was the 3rd single produced by Big Demi Parker(he did The Truth's "Mac Man"),also includes a verse from Jay-Z telling the listeners that "Dont call me hov no more, call me the blueprint".
Production 9/10, lyrics 9.5/10.
9)Man's World:Great beat produced by Kanye's mentor NO I.D. Production 9.5/10, lyrics 9.5/10.
10)Gangsta,Gangsta(feat.Kurupt):Produced by Kanye West, which he also provides vocals alongside Kurupt.Production 10/10, lyrics 9/10.
11)Tales of a Hustler(feat.Sparks):Maybe the most underated song on this album produced by Sha-Self. Production 9/10, lyrics 10/10.
12)Mom Praying(feat.Scarface):Just Blaze ends the album on a high note, he produces this and the remaining 2 songs. Awesome sample beat w/ storm effects plus a great verse from Mr. Scarface. Production 10/10, lyrics 10/10.
13)Still Got Love for You(feat.Jay-Z&Rell):This is the apology track for Jay-Z's "Where Have You Been" off the "The Dynasty"album. Production 9.5/10, lyrics 9.5/10.
14)What Your Life Like pt.2:Great outro track which is the sequel to "The Truth's" What Your Life Like.

In The end Beanie Sigel gives you much more than his debut album "The Truth". Not only did he gave you the truth, but this time around he also gives you "The Reason".

3.0 out of 5 stars Beanie Sigel- The Reason, August 28, 2003
This review is from: Reason (Audio CD)
Beanie Sigel's 2nd album is "The Reason" (2001) a fourteen track release executive produced by Rocafella's Shawn Carter, Damon Dash & Kareem Burke. Track production comes from Kayne West, Just Blaze, Rick Rock, 88 Keys, B.Parker, No I.D. & Sha-Self. Appearances come from Sigel's Rocafella family: Memphis Bleek, Jay-Z, Freeway, Lil'Chris, Sparks & Rell with additional guest appearances coming from Daz, Kurupt & Scarface. Album starts off strong with "Nothing Like it" a track where Beanie talks about himself, and is backed up by a sick background sample originally performed by the Dynamic Superiors (Ain't Nothin like the Real Thing) which is followed up by the fastpaced lead single "Beanie (Mack B****)". Just Blaze produced "Get Down" samples Quincy Jones "The Lost Man" and Blaze also scratches creating a decent sounding track. The album hits a lull at this point with the next five tracks not standing out, to me they range from average to wack. Then Beanie Sigel shines on the No I.D. produced "Man's World" a track which samples James Browns "It's A Man's , Man's, Man's World". "Tales of a Hustler" feat. Sparks is a deep standout track, about the streets, death and hustling. I like "Mom Praying" feat. Scarface, a track that samples Harvey Scales "It Ain't Gonna Rain On Nobody's Parade But Mine", Beanie Sigel shows alot of love for his Mom and Grandmom on this one. Next track"Still Got Love For You" has Jay-Z and Beanie talking to and about there fathers, parents who were not there for them, Rell also appears, once again another sample is used: Issac Hayes "Ikes Mood I". This albums closer is also my favourite track, the eery sounding "What Your Life Like 2", on this Sigel goes deep while talking about how messed life can become backed by a sample of "Quasimodos Marriage" by A. Costandinos and The Syncophonic Orchestra. I like the use of samples but feel that this albums over sampling (half the tracks) leads to a less original album. "The Reason" has a strong start and finish, some memorable tracks inbetween, and a high number of skippable tracks. Up till this review this cd was gathering dust so I can not honestly recommend it though I can understand why major Roccafella fans and Philadelphia natives would like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRUTHS, QUESTIONS, ANSWERS AND REASONS, September 28, 2001

This review is from: Reason (Audio CD)
The ROC isnt going anywhere, and after listenign to Beanie Sigel's 'The Truth' you recognize just how much the Roc-a-fella has the game on lock-down.Memphis Bleek,Freeway, States Property and Jay-Z all show up to aid Beans on his sophomore LP. Jigga definitely shines on the track 'Think its a game' in which he laces the hottest verse on the album declaring 'Don't call me Hov no more call me the blueprint' foreshadowing his upcoming classic. And the Beans and Jay collabos become even more intense in the sequel to 'where have you been' entitles 'still got love for you' where they cry out to their father-gone-ghost. Even though Dogg Pound members Kurupt and Daz and other emcees including Freeway are welcoming additions to the album on gangsta influences tracks, the best moments are definitely the introspective emotional tracks. ''Whats Your life Like pt.2' leaves the same stomach-wrenching feeling of sorrow and pain that made the first one so memorable. Overall, Beanie proves that the Roc isnt going anywhere and hes holding down his ground.

1.0 out of 5 stars TRITE AND REPETITIVE!, June 26, 2001

Now I know why Jay Z has not retired. He has no one one his roster that can carry the weight. This album suffers from lack of originality. Who cares how many people he has shot. These Roc-A-Fella dudes are garbage. And he has the nerve to challenge Nas? Please. He basically ruined EPMD's classic "So Watcha Sayin". He was outshined by guests,Jigga Man, Kurupt and Scarface on tracks 8, 10 and 12 respectively. Those are the only tracks that make this album worth listening to. That Freeway cat has the most annoying voice since Cool C. I will not tell you to buy this or not to buy this, but I know that I am sorry that I bought it. QB Represents!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Reason... How could U not feel it when this Album came out. CLASSIC!!, November 23, 2009
This review is from: Reason (Audio CD)
Wow Sigel was on some kind of Guerilla movement with this Album. I dont know how to describe it, it was like watching a football player(american) rushing past his competition and knowing he was going all the way for that TOUCHDOWN! B.Sigel is a beast!! One I heard him and Bleek on the remake of EPMD's - So What you Sayin.

I knew it was a match made in Heaven. Even though they are not the first to try the Back n Forth Flow style they did it Justice. "The Gooch is here dawg im back to work, I took time off a couple n*ggas had to get hurt"

The best songs on the album, which was touch to say is Probably The Opening Track -

1. Nothing Like It (truly Magical track)
2. Beanie (Mack B*tch) (The reason I called him a Beast)
3. So What You Saying (Sigel and Bleek with the back n forth Flow)
5. I Don't Do Much (Not much means alot trust me, its kind of scary)
6. For My N***az (a west coast feel, its alright)
9. Man's World (He encourages u to MAN UP and stop B*tching!)
11. Tales Of A Hustler (Sigel and Omilio Sparks, Explains their struggles)
12. Mom Praying (Very Reminiscent Track Good Job!)
13. Still Got Love For You (WOAH!! Jay-z joins Sigel on this one, SUPER DEEP song)
14. What Your Life Like 2 (SCARY/DEEP meaning track, Sigel forshadows his future, years later u see what he meant)

All in all, this was one of Beanie Sigel's most Unforgettable Classic Albums, if you didnt remember where you were when this came out. Give it a listen. It is a MUST BUY!!
