5.0 out of 5 stars motivating curriculum!, April 5, 2006

My first-grade daughter enjoys this curriculum. Each week focuses on one Scripture verse, most often from Psalms or Proverbs. The student traces then copies a few words on each of the first three days of the week. On the fourth day, the student writes the entire verse on practice paper. The last day of the week, the student gets to choose a special "border sheet" on which they will write the verse and color the pictures. They are encouraged to do their best work and can give the border sheet away. My daughter wakes up on Friday and says, "It's border sheet day!" You can use this curriculum in conjunction with A Reason for Spelling, as the verse for each week is the same. We will be continuing with the next level of this curriculum for second grade.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Reason for Handwriting: Manuscript A, July 1, 2006

This is a great book for basic handwriting. It is organized so that your child can do it themselves without your help. My kids think it is fun to do too.

I love this book! It's motivating for my 4 1/2 daughter! She works on a few words each day, then Thursday traces the whole scripture, then on Friday picks a boarder page to color and then writes the whole verse out on it byherself. She especially loves that she gets to pick someone to give it to. I highly recommend this book! Very Pleased!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 27, 2010

A Reason for Handwriting is an excellent program. One that both encourages the child, and can be uplifting for others. It teaches the child to form the letters correctly. Which, of course, is the point of the program. However, it does not end there. It also teaches the child important Scriptures and then encourages the child to write the verses, using his/her best handwriting, and send the verses to someone. This curriculum is doing more than educating the mind, it is trying to reach the heart and spirit of the child.

We have been using the "A Reason for.." books with all of our children, number 9 is starting the Pre-K book. The K book has matching pages to help a young child learn the Big and little letters. It also has a page and a coloring sheet for each letter that can be pulled out. The older books have pages that can be pulled out to use for copy work. We color these and hang them up. The lessons are VERY short and get longer as the child moves up books. We have found that this keeps the child interested and handwriting not boring. However, most of my children like to just do a whole weeks worth of work in one setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous program for yound writers, August 31, 2011

I have used this series for my oldest daughter for four years and am starting my Kindergarten homeschooler with the Level A book...I saw the lower book had no scripture and opted up a level. It is easily doable for a five year old and she loves it; I copied the number practice page and she asks to do it frequently---this is a very active, kinesthetic learner who has trouble sitting still. Five stars to the whole program--we LOVE it!!!

These are great! Love to use them and felt our children benefitted from them spiritually too. Just wishing they made them in the KJV! :-) or other versions for other preferences. That said, the NIV is fine and for all practical purposes, is more useful for children to practice writing "current" language usage. Thee and thou isn't as useful in college anymore;-)
