Book Description

July 14, 2003
This work is alternately adorned with confutations of a variety of doctrines incompatible to it; deduced from the most exalted ideas which we are able to form of the divine and human characters, and from the universe in general. Due to the age and scarcity of the original we reproduced, some pages may be spotty, faded or difficult to read. Written in Old English.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT Old English, September 8, 2007
This review is from: Reason the Only Oracle of Man Or A Compendious System of Natural Religion (Paperback)
This book is NOT in Old English as the description suggests. Old English was the language of the Anglo-Saxon settlers of ancient Britain. This book is in an archaic form of Modern English. Shakespeare wrote in an archaic form of Modern English. If you can wrap your head around the fact that some "s"s look like "f"s, you should be fine. The grammar on the other hand might be a little convoluted for a present-day reader.

Although the reproduction is spotty in places, this is an amazing find for any student of Old English literature. Very happy to have found a copy for my library at last!

1.0 out of 5 stars The translation is WRONG, August 31, 2006
This review is from: Reason the Only Oracle of Man Or A Compendious System of Natural Religion (Paperback)
The old style writing of "s" which looks like an "f" should be translated as "s" when printed with modern equipment. This book translates them to "f" in printing. This is inexcusable.
