4.0 out of 5 stars There Is Always a Reason
Vickie M. Stringer's latest release, The Reason Why, is the prequel to Let That Be the Reason where we were introduced to Pamela and her alter ego, Carmen; a single mother who provided for her child by any means necessary. The Reason Why totally delivers on its title by showing readers how Pamela and Chino hook-up. For Pamela, it was a normal night at the club until...

For Pamela, it was a normal night at the club until Chino walked up to her and slipped his gun into her purse. Though Pam was hesitant, Chino dropped game on her and the rest is history. Their relationship seemed to move with lightening speed. Love came almost instantaneously and with high costs. Pamela went from a naïve college student to a ride-or-die chick. But what happens when the chips are down and the hustler folds his hand? If you read Let That Be the Reason, then you know the answer, but The Reason Why tells you how it all began.

Stringer created something readers have been asking for. Though I read Let That Be the Reason years ago, I remember wondering how Pam and Chino's relationship began. This was a quick-read and definitely in the author's fashion. Since the story is based in 1988, I question some of the word usage. But overall, it was a good, urban love story. Stringer fans will enjoy The Reason Why and new readers are guaranteed to pick-up the subsequent novels.

This book was AIGHT, not what I expected at all, expected more, a lot more. If you want to know "The Reason Why" Pam loved Chino so much, if Chino ever loved Pam and his reason for leaving Pam and the baby high and dry. "Let That Be The Reason" you read this book.

I liked the relationship that formed between them. I thought it was a good love story until he flipped out and broke her heart. I just didnt feel he had a strong enough reason to just dump her and marry another. Also this should have been the first book because once you read Let That Be The Reason you really dont want to read how they were so in love. I like the book but in the back of my mind I just kept thinking how they dont end up together and how he dogged her out.

This review is from: The Reason Why: A Novel (Paperback)
Pam is an upper middle class student in Columbus, Ohio. She wants to get away from her strict mother in Detroit, so she decides to attend college in another state. She goes to Jazzy Jay's, a night club and while there, the police raid the place and they are searching all the men. One man eases up on Pam and sticks his weapon in her purse. She has a very brief conversation with him. The next day, she and her friend, Tomiko, cruise the hood. When she finds Chino, she gives it back but he isn't finished with her. They become friends and lovers which begins to take a toll on her college days. Her mother is super angry and threatens to come to Columbus. Pam tells her she's all right and not to come. Her grades suffer, she cuts classes and pays other students for their notes. She soon moves in with Chino and joins in helping with his hustles. What will become of Pam?

THE REASON WHY by Vickie M. Stringer is a novel of a good girl gone bad because of her street hustling boyfriend, Chino. She didn't know the game until she met him and she still has her moments of fear. It was an interesting read, but it left you with the feeling of what is the purpose? A good girl had gone bad? We all know it happens, but maybe if a bit more background of her life with her parents had been forthcoming it might have explained her desperate need to escape into another world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 18, 2009
This review is from: The Reason Why: A Novel (Paperback)
I was totally disappointed with this book. I read Let that be the reason and Imagine this and I must say this didn't hold a candle to the others. It was disappointing. I picked this up because I liked the others that she wrote. She could have left this ALONE! I still like her as a author, however, she definitely needs to rebound with some FIRE after this mess.
