Reason's articles are more than just libertarian-biased reporting of and commentary on the news. They approach every topic with eyes wide open, and challenge the traditional right/left paradigm by simply asking whether there are only two ways to look at it. Their investigative journalism is deep and effective, tearing down the ivory towers that protect powerful people such as Mississippi's Dr. Stephen Hayne, whose shoddy forensic work has likely sent countless innocent people to prison.

Having read Reason for several years, I find that I can no longer stand to read the opinion and puff pieces that pass for "journalism" in daily newspapers and most other magazines. Reason is what journalism should be.

Reason is one of my favorite magazines. It offers a (libertarian) perspective that you don't find in many publications. The writing is generally very good and the magazine covers a wide range of topics. My favorite section is the humorous brickbats, but they also have in-depth research and opinion articles, biographies, and interviews.

I purchased one issue of REASON to evaluate the magazine. While the articles were varied and well written, the lack of a table of contents was quite frustrating. The only method to preview and navigate between article was to sequentially scroll forward or backward through the entire magazine which really detracted from the reading experience. I will happily upgrade my rating when a table of contents or some other form of article preview and navigation is provided.

I try to sample all sides (NYT, National Review, FoxNews commentary, The Nation, NPR, PBS, etc.). The libertarian "Reason" has come about as close to an unbiased freedom-loving journal as I've found yet.

This is a great magazine for understanding the Libertarian point of view. I don't agree with everything; the drug legalization stuff is a tough read.

It's amazing that someone would say that the New York Times is a more "rational" publication. The New York Times is Liberal, Reason is Libertarian. Plenty of Libertarians think the New York Times is irrational. BTW, poking fun at petty governmental abuses is supposed to be the light part of the magazine - not sure why someone wouldn't understand that.

If you don't want the Libertarian perspective, do not buy this magazine. If, however, you are interested in having your elementary school/middle school/high school/college indoctrination challenged, then buy the magazine. It's great for reading in airports while you are waiting to be herded on board the airplane.

When I first tried the Kindle version this past January (2010) I was a bit disappointed because although the fine articles found in the newsstand copy were all in the Knidle version...all of the photos and cool graphics were missing. Well I've noticed that in the last few issues all that has changed and the folks at Reason have started adding all of the missing pieces including a copy of the front cover. There is nothing like having one of your favorite magazines delivered right to your Kindle.....I am now a happy reader.

BTW - If you enjoy reading Reason magazine, checkout the Kindle version of 'The Freeman' magazine (recently added), it's published by one of the oldest free market/libertarian think tanks in the USA. Good stuff!

Very iconoclastic, with its refusal to accept the idea that all good flows from, and all problems can (and should be) solved by government. They routinely report the 'rest of the story' that you won't find aywhere else, without the pro-government slant of most other publications. If you can handle reporting that isn't afraid of sacred cows of the left or the right, you'll enjoy Reason.

Frankly, I found this magazine informative. It is refreshing to read something that appears to emphasize fact rather than the emtional, usual thinly veiled propagandas so prevalent among contemporary magazines. Thank you!
