Book Description

It's stupid to fall for your brother's ex. It's even worse to enlist another's help to win the ex over. But Brody is desperate and Hayley, his partner in American Sign Language, is more than willing to lend him a few tips. She’s the school’s ‘matchmaker’, and with her bizarre and positive personality, Brody finds her easy to talk too, even about the most awkward situations. Hayley’s tips seem to be working, but as Brody learns more about his matchmaker, he starts finding reasons to spend time with her, and not the girl he thought he was in love with.

But Hayley isn’t ready to fall for anyone. Labeled the “Funny Fat Friend” within her group, her self image makes it impossible for Brody to share his feelings without Hayley shrugging it off as a joke.

Convincing her Brody can, and did, fall for the “Funny Fat Friend” turns out to be a lot harder than simply falling in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesomesauce! January 8, 2013
By Kazzy
Format:Kindle Edition
Ohh, I know a book is brilliant when I have so many thoughts, they refuse to form an orderly queue so I can write them down sensibly! But I'll give it a try!

Reasons I Fell In Love With This Book:

1. The characters ROCK! Becca Ann makes writing boy POV look like the easiest thing in the world.

2. Hayley is someone everyone can relate to. She represents the insecure girl that lives in every female, young or old.

3. There is no let up in the action. Those parts of a book where your eyes begin to glaze over because you just want things to move on already do not exist here.

4. It's really funny - and Hayley's comments are fabulously random. I laughed out loud many times!

5. It has real, genuine romance that isn't forced. It all flows so beautifully, you can't help but be swept along with it.

6. Becca Ann is simply a very talented lady, and I am absolutely positive that the world will fall in love with her words as much as I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Cute! January 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was just so friggin' cute! It was a light, fun, fluffy read, and I read it in two sittings - which would have been one sitting but I really was in need of sleep so I could function properly at work. I don't think I've actually read that many romances told from a male narrator, so was refreshing for me. Yes, I'll admit that you can still easily tell that the book was written by a woman, but eh, it was cute, and I still really liked Brody.

I also really enjoyed reading the chapter titles. Each title was reason why Brody fell in love with Hayley, which I thought was really cute. I enjoyed reading through his perspective, and watching him struggle at getting Hayles to see that the feelings he was developing for her were real. I was rooting for him the whole time I was reading.

The one thing that bothered me most, however, was that the author never really gets into a lot of the bigger issues occurring in her characters' lives. We know that Brody is upset with his brother, and that Hayley's mom is really mean and is probably the cause of her insecurities, but those issues are never really dealt with. I know they were added to show why Hayley and Brody were the way they were, and helped drive the story, but I really would have enjoyed seeing a bit more depth to the characters, and seeing some sort of resolution between Brody and his brother, or Hayley and her mother.

But despite my disappointment at not having some of those issues delved into further, I really loved reading this story. It was insanely cute, and I smiled a lot while reading it. Brody and Haley were super sweet together, and I'd give their story 4.5 stars! I know I'll be picking this up again when I'm in need of a light, pick-me-up kind of a read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre, but not bad February 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was bizarre. I mean, the plot itself is unoriginal and fluffy, typical of a YA romance novel (which I don't mind!), but the characters themselves were just... strange. And I don't know if I mean that in a good or bad way.

Brody is the narrator of this book, our male lead, and I wonder if that's why it has such a strange feel to it. Some writers can do a believable male POV and some can't. I don't want to say it was awful, but it just didn't feel right. Brody is pretty vanilla, we can call him a Bella Swan if you will. He's kind of just there, being hot, nice, funny, smart (aka no real flaws).

(slight spoilers after here)

Hayley is the really bizarre one. She considers herself the "funny fat friend" but of course she isn't "really" fat. Then again, Brody's brother calls him a "chubby chaser" for being interested in her, so I can't really tell. Brody says she's not, his brother says she is. I'm not really sure. Hayley also is apparently really against things like swearing, but she has no problem having sex with Brody THE FIRST TIME THEY KISS.

Yes, you read that right.

Hayley has never been kissed before and when she and Brody try it for the first time, it's so awesome she has to have sex with him right then and there. Most teenage girls value their virginity a little more than that and I would expect a girl as straight edge as Hayley to wait a bit longer before giving up the V-card.

As far as the swearing, Hayley apparently hates swearing so she uses all sorts of weird phrases instead of swear words (like 'holy f-bombs of glory').

She also uses the word "fart" instead of the "f-word" which drives me nuts. I've no doubt that it's a huge pet peeve of mine, but I hate the word fart. I hate talking about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read February 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a heavyset girl myself, I liked this book. It was interesting to read through the eyes of a guy (although I have no clue why his room smelled of corn chips so bad. Time to lay off the Fritos, my friend), but I loved hearing his reasons and I loved the ending.

Another good book: DUFF by Kody Keplinger. (Stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend) I found it more enjoyable than this book.

I loved this book. It was so sweet and very true to life (speaking from a personal perspective here). Both Brody and Hayley sounded exactly how their characters should, and I really liked hearing the story from Brody's viewpoint. I became invested in both of their characters, desperately hoping that everything would work out. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a light, sweet and fun won't be disappointed. A big thank you to the author for a story and characters that I really cared about, and for taking the time to make sure the grammar, punctuation and so on was correct before publishing ( yes, I read the acknowledgements ;-) ), it really does make a world of difference for the reader.

Looking forward to reading more from this author...and certainly would love to revisit Brody and Hayley if there were any other stories. Great job!

More About the Author

Cassie Mae (who dawns the name Becca Ann on occasion) is the author of a few hundred... okay, maybe not that many... books. Some of which became popular for their quirky titles, characters, and stories. She likes writing about nerds, geeks, the awkward, the fluffy, the short, the shy, the loud, the fun.

Since publishing her bestselling debut, Reasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend, she has published and sold books to Random House, Swoon Romance, and Spencer Hill Press. She has a favorite of all her book babies, but no, she won't tell you what it is. (Mainly because it changes depending on the day.)

Along with writing, Cassie likes to binge watch Teen Wolf and The Big Bang Theory. She can quote Harry Potter lines quick as a whip. And she likes kissing her hubby, but only if his facial hair is trimmed. She also likes cheesecake to a very obsessive degree.

You can stalk, talk, or send pictures of Dylan O'Brien to her on her Facebook page:
