More About the Author

Richard Chesser's marriage counseling is geared toward three types of people: those who are excited about getting married one day, those who are currently married, and those who have children who will get married sometime soon. For over 20 years, his sole aim has been to help others better their marriage or provide advice for those who would like to do the same.

Richard has had the pleasure and privilege to speak with a number of people who have been married for some time and others who are thinking about getting married sometime soon (personally, he has been married for over three decades). Therefore, he's had the chance to gather first-hand information about what makes a marriage work, and what makes it fail.

His resources are not only from his personal experiences and stories, but as well as science's findings on the marriage trends that have happened throughout history, up to the problems plaguing our society today. His books are well-researched, citing many studies and trends over the last century.

He truly believes that the modern family does, in fact, have a bright future as a whole. Having a successful marriage is a right that is earned and accomplished -- and by reading Richard Chesser's books, you'll have a detailed understanding of what it takes to attain that level of achievement.

Richard currently resides in the Washington, D.C. area surround by his wife, children and a loving family created through many years of hard work and dedication. He enjoys travel, reading, live performances, BBQing and entertaining his friends. (For 1-on-1 opportunities, please use the contact form found on his RichardChesser.com website.)

With several friends and family members being divorced, and heading toward a marriage in my future, I want make sure I am armed with as much helpful information as possible so I can stay married for life. This book had a great overview of marriage trends and statistics, but also got into very detailed scenarios too. I recommend this book to anyone looking to build a strong marriage (like me) or possibly identify existing problem spots.

I bought this book shortly after I finished Chesser's other book (12 Proven Steps to Have a Healthy Marriage, Prevent Divorce and Keep Your Romance Alive (Marriage Counseling). Both books look at marriage in a different way. I especially liked how this one looked at all the things that can destroy a marriage and how to avoid them before you even start. For someone like me who has been married for decades, it was a helpful reminder of what I need to do to keep things loving and strong. And for someone like me who enjoys statistics and research, I loved all of the facts and studies that were in this book too. Recommended to anyone in a relationship, especially if you're thinking about getting married.

This book was well worth the investment! The other happy reviews are right: it helped remind me of marriage pitfalls and what I can do to keep my relationship strong and full of much love. Since I love when claims are backed up, I thought the research studies, examples and stories were an awesome addition. I've become a fan of Richard Chesser's work and this book is just as good as his others. Highly recommended!

This book is a real eye opener because it is so true to all the things that we do wrong in a relationship. I know that my mind does cause me to have negative thoughts about my hubby and really do any of the small things really matter.

Great book! I found this book very helpful because of all the examples used to back up the research. Even though each of the chapters has a lot of great stories to explain the points, this book also has a LOT of data, studies and statistics from around the world (it will definitely take you a few nights to read! lol). If you are like me, you will most likely think about a few new relationship topics you hadn't considered before - and a few red flags to avoid. Thank you for writing such an indepth book! Well-written and worth picking up!

I would recommend this book to a younger reader, perhaps someone in their late teens to twenties who is contemplating marriage and is seeking an educated point of view. I'm 60 years old and the majority if not all of what I read I had already picked up over the years through common sense, observing other people's relationships (including my own), and through reading. This book is intelligently written, very precise in its explanations, and easy to comprehend.
