Mercury leftovers still tasty,
By
This review is from: Reba Nell Mcentire (Audio CD)
We all know that singers sometimes record more songs than they need for an album. Those not included often stay in the vaults, ignored for many years. Following Reba's departure from Mercury to MCA, her first label searched their vaults and found more than enough tracks to make up an album. While these are not the best songs that Reba recorded for Mercury (if they were, they would have been included on one of her original Mercury albums) they are of a high quality - far better than I would expect of leftovers. There are covers of Waiting for the sun to shine (Ricky Skaggs) and Empty arms (Teresa Brewer). Most of the songs here are ballads, beginning with the opening track, I've never stopped dreaming of you. This is an interesting collection that committed Reba fans will enjoy. If you are unfamiliar with Reba's Mercury music, I recommend that you start with Oklahoma girl, a double-CD that I reviewed a long time ago, which contains some of these songs and all her Mercury classics together with more then-unreleased tracks from the vaults. If you want more of her Mercury music, I recommend Feel the fire, Unlimited, Behind the scene and Heart to heart (in any order) next, followed by Out of a dream. That just leaves two Mercury albums - this one and her untitled debut - to complete all available recordings from that period of her career.

A little known treasure....,
By
This review is from: Reba Nell Mcentire (Audio CD)
This is an album that I had originally discovered in the late 80's as a young child, and a fairly new Reba fan. What's nice about this album is that it is full of unreleased material that is just precious. If you want to hear a gentle, relaxed side of Reba McEntire, then "Reba Nell McEntire" is a must have album.

These songs are so pretty and Reba sounds so pure and unaffected. I listen to this one all the time because its country, pure and simple!! The production values on here are great as well!

GREAT SHOWCASE OF UNRELEASED TUNES,

All the songs on this CD were recorded by Reba when she was on Mercury but they were never released until after she hit it big on MCA and Mercury thought they'd cash in on some of the winnings. I can't blame them but I do blame them for never marketing her the way she deserved as in my opinion she did her best work on Mercury when she was being produced by Jerry Kennedy! This fine CD is a great showcase for all Reba fans!

I will take Reba like this any day compared to what she does now. The reviewer below said she was relaxed. I call it not over the top. This is a great CD and the songs on this for the most part are excellent because they are not overproduced!!

Give me Reba's Mercury output any day. I'll take it over her MCA travesties (except for her early MCA releases). This one is a dandy!!!

I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THESE SONGS WERE NEVER RELEASED,
By khays (hudson valley, new york) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Reba Nell Mcentire (Audio CD)
This CD was only released after Reba became a superstar and Mercury decided to profit off of her by releasing some hidden gems that inexplicably, never made it to vinyl. I don't know why. They're certainly better than her recent stuff. Except for "I'll Have a Better Day Tomorrow" which is a disaster, the rest of the songs are top notch and Reba is in top form singing them as well because she doesn't over sell them. Get this one!!

This is a great CD of Reba's early recordings. The CD was originally released in 1986 with a different photo on the cover.
