Early Rebecca Is Still Good Rebecca!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rebecca St James (Audio CD)
This is written to refute the mostly negative review by the Amazon critic. Pay no attention to him: this album is great. No, the album doesn't sound much like Rebecca's later releases, being that its sound is straight-out pop. But if you like quality Christian pop, that's hardly a problem. 7 years later, "Here I Am" still rates as my favorite RSJ song, both for its smooth, infectious sound and for its bold lyrics. Other standout tracks include "Everything I Do", with a fun, fast-paced chorus, and "Side By Side", which incorporates the use of an African children's choir. "A Little Bit Of Love" also deserves mention for its enjoyable pop-dance beat. From Day 1, Rebecca St. James was a star in Christian music and this initial album is the reason why. I invite you to come find out for yourself.

I love anything by RSJ because of her ability to go staight to the point. This is her first CD and all I can say is that she sure sounds better than all those dippy wonnabe pop singers today.Onya RSJ.

The very first of Rebecca,

Unlike "God", "Christmas", and "Pray", this album has a very contemporary sound. Its very pop oriented. Still it is uniquely Rebecca in its own respect. My favorite is "Above all Things." The words are so in-depth and powerful. Here is the chorus: For above all things, He is powerful, And above all things, He is the King. And above all things, He is merciful. For above all things, He thought of me.

...I love this CD and always have. I have her later two CD's, 'God' and 'Pray', as well. Although 'Rebecca St. James', her debut CD, sounds a lot like like bubblegummy Debbie Gibson while 'God' and 'Pray' remind you of hardcore Alanis Morrisette(I've never liked Alanis's music or her overly negative message, for the record) I love all three of the albums and I think that 'Rebecca St. James' is every bit as good as St. James's next two albums. The songs here may be a different style, but they are communicating the same powerful positive message about commitment to and firm faith in God that Rebecca's next two albums focus on. In that, 'Rebecca St. James' is no different than her other work. Every song here on Rebecca's debut has moved me and meant a lot to me in my walk with God. My favorites are 'Side by Side', 'Here I Am', and 'I Thank You Lord'. They have moved me so much and inspired me to keep going at many times when I was down. So have many songs on 'God' and 'Pray'. My point is, those of you who are used to the sound on her 2nd and 3rd CD's don't be so hard on this one. It's a different style than the next two but it's just as energetic, powerful, positive, and inspiring as they are. I love all three of the CD's, Rebecca St. James is an awesome artist, and I can't wait for her next album that's coming out in a few months.

Original Beginnings?,

Rebecca St. James' debut self-titled CD shows that anyone can change musical styles. Compare the album with her latest, Transform, and see for yourself.

Okay,
This review is from: Rebecca St James (Audio CD)
I liked this CD.It did not move me like Pray did. The tracks are really good. Their arranged well. But this is not the CD that moves you to kneel down and change your life, it is a nice CD to listen to if you want to have fun or something. It did not make me think, or anything like that. But it's good. I liked it. But I didn't go all crazy over it.

Wholesome Lite Pop Origins of a Very Young Rebecca St. James. Great Singing, but I Don't Particularly Like Lite Pop Sounds.,

This review is from: Rebecca St James (Audio CD)
I guess if you like lite pop music with a Christian influence, then this is a great CD to have, REBECCA ST. JAMES, though I, personally, much prefer the more loud rocking efforts from Rebecca St. James, coming after REBECCA ST. JAMES, during the late 1990s and into the new century.
This CD looks like a kids' music CD, like a mouseketeer demographic target, but the vocals are surprisingly STRONG, and the Christian content, though not consistent in every single song, is to be commended as being a much greater percentage of praise and worship than what generally passes for popular Christian rock, these days. The production values of REBECCA ST. JAMES are very good! None of these songs are clunkers, though the listener does have to be open-minded towards this genre sound of lite pop. The foldout CD booklet is brief, but it has all of the song lyrics, some of which Rebecca co-wrote herself, and each song also has a Bible verse quotation, and a one sentence reason as to what that song means to Rebecca from her Christian perspective! In her career, Rebecca has often been like a chameleon concerning her musical stylings, though ALWAYS pushing the topic of Jesus and the Gospel! My favorite CDs by Rebecca St. James are her harder, louder rock music albums, GOD from 1996, and PRAY from 1998, and even her dance music oriented mega-music monolith TRANSFORM from 2000, which makes ABBA catchy techno dance music seem listenable to me. TRANSFORM has probably been my most listened to of her albums, but GOD and PRAY are the true way to go if you like loud rock music with catchy melodies. Rebecca delivers the goods! God Pray Transform Here latest CD/DVD, aLIVE IN FLORIDA, is highly recommended by me, too, because you get the live album on CD, then also the full-length concert experience on a bonus DVD! ROCK ON, Rebecca! Jesus is the ROCK, when it is a Rebecca St. James concert! aLIVE in Florida (W/Dvd) (Bril)

This is it - the first album of Rebecca St. James. As you may think, this is not one of her best albums. This is the studio album before the classic album "God". Still, you can find very good songs, like her first hit "Here I Am", "Side by Side", "I Thank You Lord", and "Everything I Do". There's some great songs, but songs "We Don't Need It", "Little Bit of Love", "Above All Things", and "True Love" are quite simple and I don't listen to those songs very often. However, I find the message very important, and Rebecca's songs are full of it! Jesus and God are the main topics in this album, and I appreciate that! I believe in Jesus, Holy Ghost, and God. I hope that this album opens the eyes of some people - as well as all the gospel albums. Rebecca has many great Christian rock albums and I hope you will get to know them! "Jesus Loves the Little Children" tells truly which this all is about - we Christians are God's children!
