After all these years this recording is still a favorite of mine. I remember hearing bits of this recording on the radio back in 1982? My friend has the original vinyl. Both of the pieces on this recording are excellent examples of the very best in French baroque. Most people have heard of Lully, or Rameau, but these guys really now how to compose. And The Academy of Ancient Music did a masterful job brining that great music to the modern ear. The Tambourins are the best I have ever heard.

Very nice music and an excellent performance. It reminds me of Rameau in a lighter way.

This is definitly a 5 star performance and recording but this is not a better transfer than the original digitally re-mastered (ADD) CD that was re-issued in 1989 which I still have. Why is Decca (L'Oiseau Lyre is a label of Decca) re-issuing this analog recording on regular CD and not remastering it in DSD and putting them on a Hybrid SACD so we can really enjoy the true master tape sound like RCA did with their old analog Red Seal recordings? Regular 16 bit 44.1kHz sampled CDs can not capture all the delicate detail and timbre of the instruments that a analog to DSD re-mastered SACD can. Look at Mobile Fidelity and the great work they are doing in remastering old analog recordings to Super Audio CDs. So I ask, why is Decca re-issuing this on regular CD and not on a Hybrid SACD? THIS IS OUTRAGOUS! I WANT TO HEAR THIS RECORDING ON A DSD RE-MASTERED SUPER AUDIO CD!!! If you have not heard Super Audio CDs yet, you really must give them a try, once you do, you'll never want to go back to regular CDs. So I'm only giving this CD 4 stars instead of 5, shame on Decca for not giving us the best transfer possible with today's technology.
