Although he's often skirted the edges of blues music, at heart, saxophonist, keyboardist and composer Edgar Winter is a blues musician. Raised in Beaumont, TX, the younger brother of ukulele player and guitarist Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter has always pushed himself in new directions, synthesizing the rock, blues and jazz melodies he hears in his head. As a consequence, his fan base may not ... Read more in Amazon's Edgar Winter Store

Editorial Reviews

Since his debut album Entrance in 1970, Edgar Winter has always been a musical visionary, mixing and synthesizing the rock, blues and jazz melodies he hears in his head. The younger brother of guitar legend Johnny Winter, Edgar has been a prolific artist and worldwide superstar. From the mega-hit Frankenstein, to the bluesy classic Tobacco Road, Winter has never been a follower, just a true leader. With his latest release REBEL ROAD, Edgar Winter manages to rock pretty righteously. Beginning with the title Rebel Road, Eye On You, and the ultimate party hit The Power Of Positive Drinking, the band with the help of brother Johnny Winter moves in into the excellent blues scorcher Rockin' The Blues. The album which is painted with highlights from the substantial saxophone & keyboard talents of Winter, not to mention some of his finest singing recalls the best of his work with the Edgar Winter Group. Like They Only Come Out At Night album, this recording includes a pair of haunting ballads, The Closer I Get and Peace And Love. Do It Again, along with Horns Of A Dilemma, showcase Edgar Winter doing what he does best - rocking out with passion and lots of drums and guitar. Welcome back Edgar Winter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Rock and Roll is BACK! September 20, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
When I first played this record I thought it would be another "OK"
record from a great artist, WRONG!!! It is the Rock Album of 2008!!!!!
The title track says it all about the record "Back on then road again" Slash's opening powercords a perfect for this song (Rebel road). This record will have you rocking right out of the gate and doesn't stop. The song "Rocking the Blues" you guest it, None other than Edgars Brother Johnny Winter, doing what he does best,"TEARING IT UP" If you wanted to compare this record to any other Edgar Records start with "They Only Come out at night" or "Shock Treatment".

Thanks Edgar & Company for the best Rock Album of 2008!!!!!

Bettendorf, Iowa

5.0 out of 5 stars Edgar Winter And Guests Deliver The Goods August 7, 2008
Format:Audio CD
On REBEL ROAD, Edgar Winter, working with such guests as his brother Johnny and Slash on guitars, and Clint Black on vocals, delivers real music that's a breath of fresh air in a world full of angst-rock and Hannah Montana. Combining his love of blues and soul with modern sounds and styles, Winter, who's visually impaired, once again proves that a disability doesn't need to be a handicap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Tornado August 13, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
He still has it! Great vocal range and variety of songs and genres. It's refreshing to be able to hear this kind of music with all the crap that's out there these days.
I hope Edgar continues to be blessed with the golden cords he has and wish he and his wife a very happy future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edgar rocks December 14, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've followed Edgar throughout his career and I appreciate his rockers and ballads most. This album delivers on both fronts. This isn't the album for the folks who like Edgar's funk and spacy offerings. There's none of that here. This album rocks from beginning to end, except for a couple of excellent ballads which demonstrate that Edgar's voice is still in fine form. The songwriting is strong with excellent hooks and strong playing. On the rockers, I would have preferred Edgar's voice up in the mix a bit. Guitars are featured here and Edgar's keyboard work is minimal. Slash contributes a stellar solo on the first track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Johnny & Edgar Winter December 14, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This new CD, the answer to what happened to the 70's after 1979. It captures the true essence to what is Rock 'n' Roll! fact i believe "The Winter Bros." are what has kept the spirit of Rock 'n' Roll alive for all these years!...this includes the heavier metal, and country, well as the popular genre! I'd like to see this album exceed the popular genre, as well as become a common link towards Rock 'n' Roll in general! Johnny & Edgar are still Alive & well in the new Mellinium!Together - Live

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Alive & Kickin' Out The Jams February 2, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Finally....a life saving/transforming shot of rock and roll hootchie coo from the Winter Bros. These two very white very Texas boys have been erupting since they burst upon the scene in the late sixties. I've seen them both live countless times, but of late had lost touch with them. Johnny appeared here in Hawaii last year but I missed his show, was bummed out, but have felt totally rejuvenated by this album....just to be able to "get lost in the rock and roll" once again makes us rock and roll geezers feel alive again

Edgar Winter takes off in a different direction in this DVD. His music has a subtler sound than usual, but it is still great. We have always enjoyed his music, but there is something about the song, "Rebel Road", that is absolutely compelling and haunting.

I guarantee that you will enjoy this later spin of music. Definitely buy it, and listen to it as much as possible. Goodness knows that we listen every day, but we listen to anything that Edgar Winter does.

The CD is well produced with a couple of catchy tunes, but most of them are a little bland and pedestrian. Not enough sax or piano for my liking. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Effort, But The Songwriting is Weak
EW still sounds pretty good, and the band is decent, but the songwriting is pretty ho-hum.
