5.0 out of 5 stars Daring do in the face of long odds.
A great addition to the Star Force Series. In this latest installment Riggs and crew are still at the mercy of the Mechaniods. Far from earth, cut off from support its up to Riggs to save his marines, his girl and the planet earth. Although Not necessarily in that order. Throw in alien species and an oversized brain box gone weird and you've got the makings of great...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars A decent military sic-fi novel
I liked it for the most part. I did think some of the characters were a bit thin. But I like a good rousing fight story and that's what this is. It's not going to be a literary classic, but it is fun, if you like the military sci-fi genre.

A good rip roaring read, I enjoyed this book immensely and heartily recommend it to anyone who's enjoyed this series so far.

Rebellion (Star Force Series)

I found it to be another great addition to the series. It is a very fast paced book with plenty of action and look forward to book 4 Conquest. You will find that the book with answer a lot of the questions you had from the first two books.

I'm here in Afghanistan and have been waiting for this book to come out for months. It was worth the wait!!! This is an incredible series!!! He really did a wonderful job piecing together the other two books, and there were def. time were I was like, "how are they going to get out of this!?". The author did a GREAT job. My only critique is that the editor needs to scrub the book more carefully. There were some words that ran together, and some words that were space oddly. But other than that, what an incredible third book! I can't wait for the fourth book!!! O, and the price, you can't beat it!!! This kind of entertainment for such an economical price tag. OUTSTANDING! really a great read.

To biotic Larson,

I totally enjoyed Rebellion which is the third installment of the Star Force series. I have completed my part of our agreement. When should I expect Conquest to be released?

I couldn't put the book down once I started reading the latest adventures of Col. Riggs and his Marines. Once a chapter ends, it's impossible to not start the next and take a break.

Can't wait for the next book, "Conquest."

What a fun read! I have always enjoyed the human/machine interactions of sci-Fi and Larson does not disappoint. He also includes good robots, bad robots, different advanced beings and an ancient culture that left behind a galactic infrastructure... Sounds a little much, but it flows together very well. Keep up the good work, I look forward to your next book in the series.

This is a great story. Starting when an ordinary man is snatched from his farm by an alien ship and following his growth to a space commander. Who are the machines? Will the alien races band together to help the humans? What new technology will humans unearth next. All these questions will be on your mind as you follow Riggs through this epic adventure. I can't wait fr the next book. Larson is a master storyteller.

Well I am close to finishing the current installment of this series and I can say I am still extremely pleased. It is interesting that so many reviewers feel the need to imply they love the book despite "subpar" character development. I have to say that if the actions and thoughts of characters in a story are convincing and believable, given the circumstances the characters are placed in, character development exists by implication (and a little imagination on the part of the reader). In fact I prefer a greater degree of action to evaluate a character by then page after page of deep internalized conflict. If you notice Larson only elaborates on a character's thoughts if they are not an obvious motivator of a character's actions or the most probable motivation for a course of action. Perhaps the reader should view the lack of unnecessary prose as the author's faith in the capacity of his readers to fill in the blanks. I find that the fast pace of the action unfolding, the main character's admission that he is making a bunch of this up as he goes along and the obvious but unspoken reactions to the main characters often callous and abrupt manner to have an honesty and authenticity that is often lacking in Sci-Fi.

So often I read these long drawn out explanations about how and why or why not something or something else or how the character's third grade teacher may have felt about a course of action taken or not taken or a horde of extraneous information all wrapped up in a completely unnecessary and ponderously contrived anecdote to bring us back to why the main character wore his red shirt today!

It is refreshing to read an author that can produce a great action-packed story and allow me keep my imagination while he provides me with pieces of his imagination as well. For my part I can say that I have read Dostoevsky and other works penned by authors whose style was very character driven. I have turned page after page of Raskolnikov's bouts with lethargy and vain attempts to reconcile and justify murder all to make a grander point about the moral corruption of 17th century Russian Youth. While I thought the final product was maybe worth getting to I can say the book probably should have been finished in 50 pages... Let's face it we are products of a modern society and as such we want fast-paced, event driven novels. If you want character driven prose why are you reading any Sci-Fi at all?

Yeah okay I realize I have typed a long, verbose post to say how great it is to read an author that doesn't beat a point to death and load us down with extraneous information so I should probably wrap up the review pretty quickly lest I lose all credibility. The bottom line: Larson has written a very good, memorable, fast-paced and exciting story. If you have not read this series yet I urge you to do so.
