I'm going to start this review by saying that i have been waiting for this woman's album since 2008 when i heard a few buzz singles called 'Fallin' and 'Cant Do This' (Check them out). After label complications her album 'Pain Medicine' was never released and I was heart broken! This album was well worth waiting for though :).

It flows perfectly and there is no need to skip any songs. Her song writing skills are brilliant and shine brightly on tracks such as 'I Don't Like Me', 'Sometimes' and 'A Mothers Prayer'. These are very heartfelt songs and listening to them makes you relate and really think about things during quiet moments to yourself.
Other songs such as lead single 'V.S.O.P' and 'Pay My Bills' fill you with energy and make you think about your lover with an affectionate smile.

This album really goes through the motions and is very high class R&B soul music.
Before this album was released, K put out 4 mixtapes over a few years which all contain some AMAZING music!
Look those up too! They are all absolute gems!
This album is the result of a very long journey, may the great music keep coming for years to come <3

i was expecting a bit more since i heard her working with R.Kelly and her mix tapes and songs here and there. however she comes off like a Broke Mary J Bliege amongest others and never finds her voice or groove fully. got a few cool cuts on here and the rest are cutting room floor material. this is a bit much over the top. she got a rawness and yet its more shock factor than bringing it home. if you gonna Millie Jackson it then bring it all the way.

I realize it stated that it was explicit, but I didnt expect such explicitness. I was really wanting a soulful CD, not sou then hood, I just really didnt care for some of the songs on the album and wish I had just bought the ones i really liked instead.

K. Michelle has been around for a few years in the underground dropping mixtapes and EPs but finally got some exposure through Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and was able to get a chance to release her much anticipated debut album. Vocally, K. Michelle has the potential to be a big R&B star. A little Beyonce, a little Keyshia Cole, some Evelyn Champagne King mixed with some Mary J esque pain. There's no doubt she can sing. Content wise it's a mixed bag.

I've never really been a fan of explicit R&B unless it was some Nate Dogg (RIP) or maybe club songs. Not on ballad-esque songs though. I just don't really see a purpose for it especially with singers like K. Michelle who have such a beautiful voice. Don't ruin it trying to be edgy. Also this is a female R&B album meaning that the overall content isn't really universal. Songs like Hate On Her, When I Get A Man, Can't Raise A Man and Pay My Bills you can tell by the song titles exactly what you're getting. As a male listening to this album, I can't really get attached to it like that. The songs aren't "bad" (except for Pay My Bills) they just don't carry much replay value from a man's perspective.

I guess the gripe for me is the songwriting. Being that I bought this digitally (which I'm not really a fan of either) and there's no liner notes (completely ridiculous) I don't know who to blame for subpar lyrics and content. If she wrote for herself then she needs to tighten up or hire someone to oversee. If she hired someone to write some lyrics then she needs to hire someone else.

That's my only real "problem" with this album. K. Michelle delivers a fantastic and soulful vocal performance throughout her debut and the production perfectly matches her vocal effort.

I was really looking forward to this release. Sad to say, I was really disappointed. K. Michelle has a very powerful voice but this CD does not show it. It's very juvenile and fashion backward. It consists of a lot of cliche' words made into a song...something that I would expect from a teenager. She could have, and should have, done a lot better. Not one song is timeless or shows her range.
