5.0 out of 5 stars X-Com meets Final Fantasy Tactics
I was a little sceptical when i first heard about Rebelstar Tactical Command. I've been waiting for a handheld version of X-Com for a long time and despite loving Tactical RPGs i was a little disapointed that the only real aspect of X-Com to make it to Rebelstar (Other then fighting aliens) was X-Com's brilliant tactical combat. (For those who haven't played X-Com think turned based squad combat with pistols, machine guns, grenades etc)

Well as you can tell by my rating i'm anything but dissapointed.

Unlike X-Com you follow a typical linier RPG plot where you must complete preset missions to progress through the story, and boy are some of the missions difficult. Despite being a seasoned veteran of everything X-Com many of the missions really have taken everything i have to keep all my soldiers alive. While some Tactical RPGs are frusteratingly difficult because they require you to spend alot of time leveling up to have a chance, (Unless you feel like extorting the A.I.) Rebelstar is the kind of game that rewards strategy and really gives you a feeling of satisfaction when you manage to get all your boys back alive and get that elite ranking. (You're scored based on your level of success in each mission)

Trust me when i tell you BUY THIS GAME, $20 dollars is a steal for this gem. Rebelstar definately gets my vote for Game of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best GBA Strategy game by makers of Xcom UFO Defense, September 8, 2005
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rebelstar: Tactical Command (Video Game)
The two brothers that made Xcom UFO Defense and Laser Squad Nemisis for the PC have made a masterpiece Strategy game for the GBA.
This is an amazing game that has had me glued to my GBA for hours.
If you liked Advance Wars and want to take your hand held strategy gaming to the next level do yourself a favor and get this game.

The game has many options and is extremely deep game. Don't let the
"cute" graphics fool you into thinking this game is just for kids.
There is a great in game tutorial that teaches you all of the important features of the game and unlike Advance Wars there are RPG elements that let you make all of your troops unique.
The game has multiplayer via "hotseat" meaning that you can play another person on one GBA.

In conclusion I highly recommend RebelStar to any owner of a GBA that likes strategy and RPG games and would say that this game is
reason enough to own a GBA SP or micro.

I Thought it was too short,

Earlier I said I have a Love-Hate relationship with this game.
The reason being, I've been exremely blessed to have played the
game that inspired Rebel Star Tactics, ( X-com, UFO Defense).
After playing this GBA game, I felt somewhat unsatisfied.
Not because of the game, but what it could have been.
Not having the ability to name your soldiers, Build your own bases, hunt down UFO's and research new weapons and ships
like X-Com was saddening.

Overall I would recommend RebelStar..
Just don't expect TOO much from it.

I have benn a long time fan of tactical rpg games like Fire Emblem, FF Tactics, Disgaea ect, and this game is able to hold it's own in that list. Challenging missions, an interesting points system. All and all a great game. If you like tactical RPGs get this one.

The games graphics are a bit dated by this point but the game has a lot of depth; RPG Stats, lots of strategy, open ended play, and all on the GBA/DS compatabile. This game is better than most DS games. I really got into this game and enjoyed it for hours. If you like the original XCom or turn based games you'll love this.

3.0 out of 5 stars falls short of greatness, July 23, 2007
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rebelstar: Tactical Command (Video Game)
I give this game such a poor star rating because I had such high expectations. X-Com UFO Defense, designed by the same Gollop brothers, was a flawless piece of PC gaming, and it will probably never be matched in the genre, on that system or any other.

Since that game Julian Gollop has made better and worse spiritual successors. I don't think that any of them have contained the global strategy part of the original, which is a shame. Laser Squad Nemesis, a shareware game for Windows available over the web, is one of the better ones. Rebelstar for the GBA, this game, is one of the worse.

Not because it is a bad game, but because it is not as good as it could be. The controls are a sort of clunky, the animations a little slow, the story tepid, and the anime-style art a bit tired. The game is fun, the pixel art is bright and it offers some interesting challenges to the tactical gamer, but you'd be better playing off the Advance Wars games for the GBA, or buying a used copy of X-Com and running it with DOSBox on a PC or buying Laser Squad Nemesis for Windows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, Great Price, September 15, 2005

Short & Simple:
If you enjoy Fire Emblem, you'll like this.
If you enjoy Advenced Wars, you'll like this.
It's turnbased stratagy, that has a lot of details to add a lot of depth to the gamepley. The graphics are a little odd, but it's a gameboy advenced title, so why would you expect too much anyways? The sound and music is a little more barable than advanced wars music and sound, but yet again, it's a GBA game. There is story mode and a "1-2 player skirmish mode." For the 2 player, you only use one gameboy, so you dont need to bother conecting another to play 2 player. Just hand it off when you're done. Then comes the story...so far it's nothing great, but not too bad. Some of the dialogue is a little on the corny side, but that's expected. So, If you like the previously mentioned games, and have no idea what x-com is, (I missed something on that one I guess) pick it up. It's only $20 bucks.
